I hope Volpe's not heading down a Knoblauch path (although it was funny as hell sometimes).

Those routine throws, he just looks like he's pushing the ball, stuck in a mental rut.

You can see the wheels in his head spinning on those "routine" plays. Glad the final out he hit Goldy in the chest with the throw.

As a former defensive wizard at first base, I'll say they're not doing him any favors.

That said, he's not doing his first basemen any favors either. Short arming routine throws. If it's a more difficult play, he seems to make a good throw. Stops and thinks too much on the easy ones.

I'm more angry when Goldy doesn't make the scoop as opposed to Rice.

From a catcher who's supposed to be the field general out there. Sanchez was a goof and I don't think even he ever did that.

Inexcusable. But even if you're not sure there's scoreboards all over the place. Does the 1B coach really need to remind the runner how many outs there are? Also if he thinks there's two outs I would think the bunt attempt would tell Wells to rethink that, but that's too complicated for someone who came up through Cashman's system. You notice the guys like Bellinger who weren't infected by the Yankee system don't make these mistakes and generally play smarter.

I was thinking doesn't the other team not going to the dugout tell you anything?

When I re-watched it, the 1B started going toward the mound. I think he saw that, figured he was going to the dugout, and just walked off the base.
