2026-27 Schedule

I really wish it was in Assembly Hall, but my whole family will be there for the gainbridge game, absolutely cannot wait. That is a phenomenal stadium to see a game, no bad seats.

I also have years of bragging rights at stake, so Gerry better get it done.
I’ve never been there but that arena looks extremely unique to me on TV. It almost looks more like an opera hall or something than a basketball venue.

Huh. If we were paid from the Players Era tourney, then whey aren’t we playing in it again this year? And why is Tomcat disparaging it and calling it a Big 12 event? What’s the issue here?
Great questions! Have to wonder if GMAC was against overloading the schedule. And wonder what the financial terms are of the Providence and Indiana games.
Players Era is a quirky format. Trying to make it a “tournament “ and adding the point differential component wasn’t the best move IMO. Call it a Festival with multiple eight team tournaments might be a better approach.

Money aside the tournament made no sense how it was setup. Matchups didn’t make sense for the third game and turnaround time on some of the games was not well thought out.

much rather be chasing an event at MSG vs going to Vegas every year with it being a shorter trip for many participants.
If only MSG offered a couple of million for NIL.

Anything would have been better than "Make it up as you go along" of last year's event.

I think they ran into a lot of trouble when it came to avoiding rematches in the third game. First two were scheduled. After that it was supposed to be based on standings using records and point differential. But that would have led to Iowa State playing St. John’s again on Wednesday along with a couple of other rematches. Compound that with travel arrangements that a few teams had reportedly already made that they tried to honor and you had a mess. To me the venue and the financial opportunity outweigh that. The purist in me hated it though.
And that is all on top of the fact that I have Thanksgiving week reservations in Vegas that I cannot cancel. Original reports were that we had a three year contract. Then there was an announcement we would definitely return. So I jumped. Sure hope there is something else to do there!

So true. The PE folks need to get their crap together and set things up like an actual tournament with structure and branding. Last year was such weird disorganized mess. Also now 32 teams ? Even 24 is just overkill. Find a path for money for the smaller tourneys in more well known arenas and iconic venues.

Regardless of NIL payouts, Syracuse not playing at MSG is contrary to the entire history of the program.

Why not just play a road game in Indiana's facility? The building is going to be 95% Indiana fans. It's a road game. Yet if we somehow win, it is totally watered down in the eyes of the metrics.

This is the kind of thing we need to pay attention to as we try to work out way back into low end tournament contention.
$$$$$$

I suspect that we'll end up playing in Tennessee this year, but not in Knoxville.
assuming, we schedule two major conference teams at home the schedule is shaping up fine and very comparable to what most teams do. UNC and St. Johns who both had good NET rankings shown for comparison.

Cuse in 2026-27
Neutral: Providence, Indiana
Home (target two major conference teams)
Away: SEC Challenge (someone like Vandy, Auburn, LSU etc)

North Carolina (last year)
Neutral: St. Bonaventure, Ohio State, Mich State
Home: Kansas, Georgetown
Away: Kentucky

St. Johns (last year)
Neutral: 3 games in Vegas, Kentucky
Home: Alabama and Ole Miss
Away: none

The Providence game is a double header with UMass/BC on a Friday night.

I am going to get historically intoxicated

I’m pretty sure we were hearing rumors of not returning to Vegas before Gmac was hired.
