2026 Olympic Hockey

I'm glad we avoided Sweden... Sweden is a heck of a tough matchup for the USA in the quarter-finals (they are better than a #7 seed).

That being said Canada will likely face #8 Czechia, which is not easy. And Czechia has scarred Canada hockey fans by eliminating Canada 3 years in a row in the World Juniors. Also Binnington will start.

The most interesting matchup in the quarter-finals might by Slovakia vs Germany (the expected matchup). That game has massive implications for both the US and Canada if the make the semi's, due to "re-seeding".

If your Canada, you want Germany to win because that would be your Semi-Final matchup instead of the Fins.

If you the US, you want the Slovaks to win because that would be your SF matchup instead of the Fins.

What kind of bs is this ? USA and Canada likely have to play Sweden and Czech Republic in the quarters .

Meanwhile noted powerhouses Slovakia get to play Germany or France and Finland get Switzerland or Italy. What is this .

Slovakia beating Finland, and Denmark beating Czech's really changed the bracket.

Juraj Slafkovsky dominating the Olympics for Slovakia changed everything... they upset Finland, then Finland beat Sweden causing a 3 way tie at 2-1 which was broken by goal differential which went to Slovakia.. Slovakia's goal in the last minute against Sweden (making them lose 5-3 instead of 5-2), was the difference between Sweden being a 3 seed instead of a 7 seed.

Since Sweden finish 3rd in their group of 4, they were going to be seeded #7-#9... at 2-1 they were the best third place team, so they got the #7 seed.

As an aside, Finland is a fair bit better team than the Czech's who lack depth. But in a 1 game format anything can happen.

The format is flawed. Your seed is primarily based on where you finish in your group. So if you are in a group with Canada or the US, the second place finisher may have 1 win whereas another division with more evenly spread talent will be artificially lower seeded

I saw several times they said the are not reseeding, this says they are?

Slovakia beats Germany in dominating fashion... a team with limited NHL players, but who have had their NHLers really contribute. Germany has bigger NHL names (Draisaitl, Seider, Stutzle), but team lacked cohesion and non NHL players apparently much worse.

Hate being down by a goal, and Binnington being the guy back there to support a comeback. Feels like we are a any crappy shot away from being down 2.

The Czech's have been Canada's kryptonite in International Hockey recently.

You shouldn’t need Crosby to destroy these guys. This is pathetic.

Yeah. Hockey not like basketball where a couple great players are going to win it over less spectacular but deeper lineup

Canada played its best 10 minutes in the last half of the second period -- very lackluster before that. First part of the game, they dominated in five on five play for extended periods. They got a good break on the second last penalty call and took advantage of it. As for the last penalty Gudas struck him in the back of the head, so it was legit.

Its come down to the third, where Dostal has probably stolen more wins than any goalie in the NHL this year vs the goalie in Binnington who may have done the opposite. But goaltending is part of the team.

This is a joke. They should be up 3 goals. Wave after wave of hemming them in. This would be a hilarious loss (for me)

(I could have scored on that shot Suzuki duffed)

Canada is in trouble
The refs ignored a huge goalie interference down the stretch. The Canadian dude hit the goalie accidentally but he hit him in the crease and was not pushed into him

Mcdavid, McKinnon , macar. I think they’ll be ok 3 on 3

Binnington and Dostal are also out there.
We are the favourites here, but Czech's are getting some good chances.
