2026 Olympic Hockey

Binnington comes few big saves in the end (last 5 minutes and OT). Don't feel comfortable with the guy at all, but going back to the 4 nations, in the last 5 minutes (or OT) he comes up big. So like last year i have to apologize to the guy... but the lack of comfort will continue next game.

Switzerland up 2-0 against Finland after two.

The Fins and Swedes have been disappointing in this tournament.

If the US beats the Swedes, thinks should open for a gold medal matchup.
US-Slovakia
Canada-Switzerland

I don’t know what else you want him to do

I think the US will figure it out, especially if they get the first goal. They have shown their ability as a team to lock things down going back to the 4 Nations.

Sweden has done some odds things with their roster, and seem to be "off". But they have talent, its just one game, a hot goalie, lucky bounce, certainly decent chances they win.

Czech's took advantage of a blatant too many man on the ice to score their 3rd goal for a period of 10-15 seconds. And 7 guys (excluding the goalie) celebrated the goal on the ice. Amazed that nobody noticed it on the Canadian broadcast live, nor the 4 refs, nor the coaches, nor the players (there are multiple other shots out there in case someone is unclear about #4)

Yes Canada took advantage of a bad penalty call to score their second goal, but this blatant too many men on the ice offsets that.

The 3 better teams won in OT (Canada, USA, Finland), but I don't like going to 3 on 3 immediately to start OT. Would like 10 minutes of 5 on 5 first.

Sweden not giving a shift to Dahlin in OT, odd choice,

The Swedish coach did a number of strange icetime decisions throughout the tournament. Sitting many guys for extended periods. They did put a good effort today though.

Great game. Sweden played great and somehow forged a late tie.

3 OT games today. Awesome.
Watched it last night without knowing the score. Nerve-wracking.

Thought Sweden was actually the better team for a good chunk of it.

Is it just me or does the rink seem a lot smaller than historical olympic ice rinks?

One thing I've always liked about Olympic hockey is the amount of skating, due to the increased space.

Not really seeing that. Ice seems really congested.

The rink was designed to be NHL size, with width of 85 feet. So its nowhere near as wide as the traditional international rink that is 98.4 feet wide. That 13 feet is noticeable.

However the one mistake in design they did make is they kept the length same as international... so its 197 feet vs 200 feet in the NHL... that part is not very noticeable.

Any idea why they did that?

Olympic hockey was always so free-flowing compared to the NHL. At least to me, it was.

I think it was general incompetence.

Sarah Nurse is a key player for Canada. Her aunt is Roxi Nurse McNabb and her uncle id Donovan McNabb.

One of the assistant coaches for Canada is Britni Smith, who played at St Lawrence and then was an assistant at Clarkson. She been the SU women’s hockey coach for a couple years. I think the SU women’s team has collapsed since Britni left the team….

US women look stuck in mud compared to Canada.

Not as loose, free flowing or aggressive as they’ve been.

Better wake up ASAP

The IOC and the NHL had to negotiate for NHL players to be allowed to go the Olympics. (NHL chooses when to go... last time they had was 2014). Using the NHL sized rink was one of the conditions the NHL asked for in negotiating, and it was granted

The 197 vs 200 feet thing was simply a mistake made by those building the Arena.

US and Canada Woman have typically been very even, and the Gold Medal game is always a one game crapshoot. This year though the US are far superior (the two teams play each other a decent amount) and were the big favourite.

The US have won 7 matches in a row between the two going back to last year World Championships, they won 5-0 in the Olympic preliminaries against Canada, they won some recent 4 game challenge, 4 games to none. (by a margin of about 4 goals per game if I remember per correctly.

I'm surprised that Canada has done so well in the first period.
