2026 Potential Roster / Portal Entries

I like the thinking on one hand but this coming season was supposed to be Fran’s breakout year. Two years ago was great but it was his first year, last year it was generally acknowledged that it was a tough schedule and might be a rebuilding year. As a fan I don’t want to think of this year as ANOTHER rebuilding season where we hope that our players gain valuable experience and we can convince them to stay.

We are definitely a younger team this season and that typically is a bad sign … but we also have depth pieces and new coaches to get the most from them. I’m a big fan of Fran’s and I don’t want any less than 8 wins in 2026.
It's becoming harder and harder to project how seasons are going to go because the sport is so different with all the player and coaching movement. I wouldn't label next season as a 'rebuilding' year, I'm looking at it as the 'first' year following success and failure and implementing the changes learned from those two seasons. First and foremost, I would say my biggest hope for next season is to see a competitive football team again week in and out.

8 Ws against this schedule would arguably be the best SU season this century and that is your floor?

How is making a Bowl a rebuild?

Well without getting the guys I truly feel we needed at safety, dt, and receiver, I think we will mid pack it 8-4 maybe lucky 9-3. If we got 2 of those 3 I would definitely say at least 10-3. Now the thing that could sway us is defensive coordinator. If our guys buy in and understand everything bye time we play, maybe we can do something. Our head coach really believes in his coaches to fix the problems at oline and defense. He fixed qb room I believe.

We’ve added at both WR and DT. Cole Weaver has proven production at wide receiver. At defensive tackle, the Georgia State kid produced as a true freshman, and the Maryland transfer brings leadership, intelligence, and Big Ten experience. Given that, what else were you expecting us to do at those positions?

I think the g state will help but I also think he will need time to get accustomed to the strength and speed difference between the schools. I think he will be a stud in 27 but a rotational player till middle to last third of season. Maryland guy is a Rooks type replacement. Perry will anchor it. Just wanted 1 really tough guy there that teams need to gameplan for. Haven't had 1 since Chris slayton.
