I am curious as to how many get left without a spot on someone's roster. Some go to a higher level, some sideways, and some drop to a lower level. Some get left out and have to pay out of pocket (like me) if they desire a degree.

I read somewhere it was around 50-60% find homes during the transfer window and it goes up to around 83% of all D1 kids find a new home by the season.

We don’t know if they’ll be replaced by better guys. And better guys are expensive.

So keep virtually the same roster that went 3-9?

That’s the reality—many players who enter the portal either struggle to find a new team or fail to get meaningful playing time at their next school.

I never said that. It’s just a bigger gamble the more your best players leave. That was my only point.

What I have read is a little lower for D1 players only 70% find a new home.

That is a surprising number to me. If that number included all divisions, I would understand. You would think that most D1 kids could make a roster on a lower division school. Not doubting your number.

Some reports are down to 50-55% get another scholarship and move to a new team. Not sure the breakdown of D1 - D3 though.

Still it means that a lot of kids are not finding a new home, and are losing a scholarship.

How many players enter today? I think the roster is still a little bloated on the offensive line. Way too many guys who haven’t contributed. I expect 5-10 more portal entries for SU.

My guess is these guys came to us asking for $X and we said at that price, you can go elsewhere.

I would think some of the guys Fran is letting go could possibly be due to academics.

Doesn’t Mark Petry have another year of eligibility after being out with an ACL last season ?
