2026 Recruiting

Sucks to see so much talent rot on the vine. College lax could be an even better product otherwise.

One might want to remember that Ty Xanders and NLF both move John Balsamo up to being a 5-star. So with Lucas Garcia, Virginia still has 2 five start attackmen in the 2026 class.

I watched a fair amount of Balsamo this spring. He's good.

I like seeing Jayden James go to the top 10, I dont like Schiendwind dropping out of the top 100

Ya surprising he dropped out, I would suspect he will be back in after this spring season. I think Prater could make a jump to.

Wonder if he was hurt or something this past spring. Normally we seem some highlight stuff but there was nothing posted for him since last fall. To fall from inside the top 50 to out screams injury.

They could have also literally forgot to add him too. He is quality. Nothing to be concerned about there. I liked what I saw from him in the McDonogh games I have seen.

The Terps have added little highlight reels to their signings:

I expected Dylan Harrigan for St.Anthony's to stick his nose into the top 100. I thought he had a pretty nice spring.

Syracuse dropped from having the 5th or 6th ranked class (I can't remember exactly) to 12th, which is kind of a bummer. Obviously, Peck, who was a five star reclassed which effects things most of all. Still, there were a number of players who dropped and no new names jumped into the top 100, or earned a four star ranking.

It looks like high school teammates Rayfield and Doshna flipped rankings, which I found kind of interesting (Doshna outscored Rayfield this spring, though I wonder if the Terp commit may have moved to attack?) Anyways, nothing to lose sleep over, it just is what it is. I have no idea how closely IL follows these players after they initially commit, and a lot of this might be arbitrary (like finding a players' high school stats online).

Duke with four of the top 10 players committed, including number 1, 3 and 5. Obviously Faison leaving for ND early is an influence here given he was ranked number 1, but still pretty impressive.

How are we supposed to get back to winning national championships when we can't even land a top 10 recruiting class? Very disappointing results on the recruiting trail so far for Gait.

The 2026 class is a top 10 class. It fell once Peck re-classed and Schiendwind dropped out of the top 100 for an unknown reason.

That said the 27 class as currently constituted is not up to PAR coming off a final four appearance and I would agree that there are definitely some concerns moving forward about Gaits ability to put together a top 5 type of class although some of those issues may not be solvable regardless of the coach.

Peck basically is a 2026, and for all intents and purposes I consider him as such, and yeah Schinedwind falling 60 spots is very strange

To add discussion here, the DEFENSIVE talent in the 26/27 classes are top notch and defense (imo) wins championships. If we can hit in the transfer portal on O we should be just fine in addition to the talent coming in.

Coach O is an A+ recruiter. Would love to find his counterpart on the offensive side. I don’t think Coach M is bad, but to get back to championship status on that end of the field we may need a Fran Brown type of recruiter.

And yeah the recruiting is a complicated issue, the formula that won us most of our championships doesn't work anymore, multiple top talents aren't coming out of section 3 like they did for 40 years anymore, you are not finding a generational set of brothers in areas noone is recruiting (we have done that twice). The sport, despite many peoples beat attempts is preppier than ever, and those profiles are not ones we generally win on.

No way the 2026 class is top 10. Out of the top 100 players, in the end we landed 3. THREE! Out of a hundred.

We had 5 a few months ago. Peck re-classed but is red-shirting so it's actually 4. No idea how Schinedwind fell out but if you assume he ends up back in there by next summer it's again a Top 10 class when you include Peck. Not saying its some top 5 class but when you consider it should be 5 in the top 100 and two guys who are right there in Prater and Owen James it's definitely a top 10 class.

The caveat is I said the defense additions we have coming in would be a top 10 class worthy. Late bloomers that are seriously athletic in Cullum/Perfetti who can both play LSM/SSDM at an elite level plus two absolutely disruptive forces in Jayden James & Owen James. The only pole we missed out on im bummed about is the kid going to Army, but he seems to have a greater calling than college athletics so you have to respect that.

Those are guys you’re adding to Filardi, Behan, and Kittleberger on campus this year. Then you have Moe, Goodwin, and Quillard coming in after.

100% agree we have some work to do on the O side, but those are defensive studs that are aggressive, athletic, large, and take away artists.

Yes, is go out on a limb and say that from what I have seen and read of Owen James, even if he doesn't end up as a top 100 because of IL politics, he will be better than several of the top 100 ranked D/LSM.
