Women's Lacrosse 2027 Recruiting

Syracuse’s women’s team out draws 90 percent of d1 men’s lax teams and the men’s team has been consistently number 1 in attendance for years and those aren’t students in the stands the University would be wise to be out in front when it comes to investing in its lacrosse programs

How much more "finacially committed" is the University supposed to be to a sport that hemmorages money? I understand that other schools are setting money on fire. Unless someone with deep pockets decides they want to play GM for SU, offering first class facilities, fanbase, and coaching should really be enough, no?

Then it’s over because the community is not in a place to give more there isn’t a community anywhere even close to supporting lacrosse the way Syracuse does. We are now in the era of buying championships and SU can’t match their counterparts

Not shocking, there is a reason the elite 8 last year was 4 Ivys (who can pretty much do whaterver and always get talent because academics), UNC(who is swimming in money across all sports) and 3 schools without mens lacrosse, the big rising star in the sport in Clemson doesn't have Men's. Trying to maintain championship level competition in both is pretty much impossible if you arn't UNC or an IVY.

It is an unfortunate truth.

You're just realizing this now?

We could never win an arms race against the huge State schools.

Florida, Maryland, UNC, PSU, etc... Big Bucks !!!

We should be able to hang with BC and Northwestern though.

I don’t know that schools should be spending what they do on athletics, but since they do, I’m just sharing the current scenario. If fans want to know why unc, Florida, Clemson, PSU and others are getting five star recruits, it’s money. Our competition for national championships decided to add double digit scholarships to their war chest this summer (SU added less than the fingers on your hand) and it is showing on the recruiting trail. SU has a better fan base that any of these schools but that’s the only real advantage. They don’t have better academics, facilities or value. The good news is that this current system will probably blow up in the next 5-10 years and we will see where Olympic sports end up on college campuses.

I do have faith in Thorpe’s ability to identify talent and develop it and most of all build a team remember he had his hands in recruiting some of the best to ever play for Syracuse and a lot of them weren’t IL 5 stars either

Well said, I also think there is opportunity for transfer support to come in and provide immediate dividends. These are players who likely weren't 5 or even 4 stars either, but have improved through steady play at smaller schools.
