2027 Recruiting

He's transferring to Fairfield Prep? You typically don't transfer to public school. The vast majority of the time you attend where you reside. Some school district's do have nonresident tuition policies or allow faculty/staff's children to attend. But if you transfer in that way, you are prohibited from participating in varsity competition for one year.
Fairfield Prep is not a public school, its a private, Catholic HS

As described by another poster, Fairfield Prep is a private school. But I understand where the confusion may have come from. Fairfield Prep plays in the CIAC in Connecticut, which is the public school league.

My phrasing was not very artful either. What i meant was it was unclear from Ty's tweet whether the student was transferring to the private, Fairfield Prep, or back to a public school in NY, Fox Lane. Lax Mouse clarified.

Ty just reposted and changed his wording: "a transfer from Fairfield Prep" (if that makes a difference)
This is really confusing. I can't imagine a 4star recruit transferring to a school that went 5-14 last year. FP has the better program/schedule and according to his IL profile, he spent 2024 and 2025 at Fox Lane and 2025 at Fairfield Prep. Per his IG page feed, last year goalie pics of him at Fox Lane, this year at goalie pics of him at FP

He was at Fox Lane as a freshman, then transferred to Fairfield Prep as a sophomore (where he backed up a senior), and is now transferring back to Fox Lane.

Probably just wanted to go back to his original school. People forget that lacrosse isn't (and shouldn't be) the be all end all for these kids' lives. He plays for a top club team and he's already shown enough to secure a commitment to Georgetown, so it's not like he needs to be at an elite high school to get to the next level.

Money, academics...it's not that unusual for kids to make this move.

Appreciate the reply.

Ah, this who I feared NY was mentioning. Thought he might be a good fit for Cuse. That's 2 new attack/mid commits for PSU today.

Again, Matthews could go anywhere but it's starting to look a little crowded in State College in this year's offensive class.

If uva lands Lynch does that change?

Potentially, hard to say though as Matthews can play Attack or MId so it depends on where certain teams are projecting him. UVA is way behind there usual pace so I'd assume they will make a move for a few guys just depends on who.

I'm no lacrosse genius but PSU picking up a bunch of offensive players in succession hopefully means Matthews is in serious play for Cuse.

It doesn't hurt for sure but again as UNC and ND has shown sometimes you take as many as you can and then sort it out later.

Completely agree but at the same time that feels aspirational for a program like Penn State vs a UNC or ND?

I'm a novice to lax recruiting but it's quite interesting. I appreciate the brevity by the players. Not so many long drawn out things like football or basketball.

PSU has come a long way under Tambroni plus remember he has a family connection there, it's not just him being recruited out of the blue.

SU has a couple of prospects on campus this weekend. A high end mid they are after I believe a few defenders etc. I assume Matthews is probably out taking visits, don't believe he has been here yet so could be this weekend.

Richardson is Matthews teammate, so not sure what sort of impact that has. In regards to Matthews, probably helps Syracuse's chances that PSU has picked up not just two top 50 attackmen in the same class, but that they are also lefties. Matthews (a lefty) is listed as a midfielder of course, but when watching his film he looks like an attackman to me.

Put it this way, if SU had gotten commits from Bladon and Richardson, I would think they were out on Matthews. Fingers crossed. Feels like a lot is riding on this commit. Grabbing just one five star compared to what the rest of the ACC is doing (bar UVA), would be worrisome. Being able to say you have two top 10 players in the fold would be huge for the Orange going forward.
