-The play on offense is way to conservative at times and I completely agree with what some others have said in other posts. We must open the playbook up sooner. It hurts the freshman QB more that we do nothing and build our selves into a deficit and allowing him less time to make plays and not to mention but he has to make everything count from their on out!! Let the kid play free from the beginning.

-The tackling on defense was pitiful. Multiple times their were 2-3 missed tackles in a given play. Heck their flee flicker should have never gotten off and it should have been a 10 yard loss if we wrap up. If you ask me their was 2 defining moments on the game deciding drive. This was the drive right after we closed the gap to 7 points. Their was a 3rd and 14, USF essentially gift wrapped us a bubble screen, can't remember the player but he played it great, but he FORGOT TO WRAP UP, USF bounces off the tackle attempt and gets 20 yards. Then another big 3rd and long and whitum gets that personal foul call. Some people disagreed with the call, but the player should have never been in that position to begin with. Don't even come close enough for the ref to make that call, the ball was not even close to being caught and then he runs right into their player after the play was clearly over, your always responsible for where your body is or who it runs into. He needs to be smarter then that, the USF player did flop but the damage was already done.

-Lastly, that loss was on the the coaching staff. To come out like that after a bye was inexcusable, it throws everything away that was gained in the LSU game. The poor tackling, the poor defensive scheme. When will Bullough realize that spread teams will throw a bubble screen when you don't match up with them? We have been absolutely torched by this play over the years because we refuse to adjust. Its a huge step backwards in my opinion. Shafer will get the job done via recruiting, he will never get it done as a game-planner in my opinion.

Don't you think the staff was taking it slow with Dungey in the first part of the game seeing how he would respond to the football equivalent of a pitcher taking a line drive to the face? Had the punt not been misplayed at the end of the first half , Lester would have pushed the O harder and we come down and score a TD for a 10-7 halftime lead . Going to the locker room with positive momentum would have made a lot of difference.

We didn't score at all in the first half and all of a sudden you have us going 75 yards for a td late in the half? Big reach.

Very very disappointed in the coaching staff yesterday in all phases of the game. The team was not coached well yesterday at all. That loss is squarely on the coaching the staff. Disappointed in the game planning effort they put together. They had 2 weeks to prepare. The offensive play calling especially in the first half reminded me so much of McF***it. Since when did we turn into an option team? Our defense was just as clueless all game long. They looked out of position on every snap.

This was a monster game. Can't tell you how big this game was for our national perception we just blew it big time. We have all had those this program is finally turning the corner moments before and failed but this one truly hurt us more than others and here is why...We have talent now. We have some top end talent on offense. We have Dungey, Fredricks, Erv and Ish. We have what looks like a future now. Not promises of getting wins and our recruiting will get better. We have real legit players on offense and needed this win to keep the buzz going in the positive direction. But instead the COACHING staff let down the players, fans and university. Just an awful coaching job by Lester and Shafer. Good programs can take a What loss every now and again. Programs trying to come back to former glory can't take losses like this. It is crushing.

And we can make the win up and probably still make a bowl game but our momentum we were creating nationally just took a big hit and it lays at the feet of the coaching staff. Terrible game plan it kills me they had 2 weeks to game plan for that and that is the game plan they came up with that is what is scary.

Everyone is telling me our overall talent is improving and I agree Shafer and Lester are doing a great job bringing in some new fresh talent to the program but if they can't coach them then what is the talent worth?

We did have a 16 play 65 yard drive in the 2nd qtr that resulted in a FG.

Might have kept the ball longer if we didn't try to run reverses with walkons.

That DB vs Jacob Hill in the open field was a bigger mismatch than Creed-Dragow.

Lester incorporated the option during the spring.

It was a good idea.

The option was not the issue against USF.

It was blocking and tackling.

I don't know, it seemed pretty clear to me (and just this game, it has been effective prior) that after 2 series USF had prepared themselves for the option.

The biggest problem with that play was having Ben Lewis in rather then Phillips, or Strickland, no-one on USF felt there was any chance of Lewis keeping the ball. Ben is a very good receiver, and its time he is moved back there in place of Cornelius, and Avant, who may know the playbook, but are no threat to do any damage as receivers. Tim has a good offense, but he needs to get the playmakers in the game, and let Eric make things happen.

This seems so logical; what are we as fans missing? Is there some technical coaching reason to play Ben @ the X? I mean how can you run an O based on versatility and deception when the personnel totally telegraph the upcoming play?

Those are the drives Dungey had 2-3 misreads running it. Later in the game the got some nice gains via the option.

It was execution. Not play calling (though I want to see more passes early).

exactly. This stuff might work at elmworst where everyone is interchangeably bad or Ohio state where everyone is interchangeably awesome, but here, you end up asking people to do things they're not good at

They run it with him once a game. You can argue that it's too much - but I think they do that to keep that position unpredictable.

Not sure it's working but I'm pretty sure that's the thought process.

I don't think they want Ishmeal and Estime off the field out wide, but Lewis should be getting reps somewhere.

spread to run . They need to ignore the mcf***it mess and look around at other schools

Just my opinion, I think Lewis is one of our best blockers and a more than capable receiver. If we only have him block, then when other teams scout us it will leave out certain elements of our offense that they have to game plan for when he's on the field.

In other words, when #84 is in we only have to worry about A & B as opposed to A, B, C & D when the others are out there.

Just a thought, and it's not like he's completely incapable of running the ball, just not as dangerous as our other RB's & XB's.

Totally agree; wish he could bulk up to TE...
Ben running the ball equals zero threat in our opponents' thought process...

I agree completely- lewis is a good blocker and receiver. But he should play a position where he only blocks and catches the ball. He and the offense would be much more effective in this role. Kind of like a flex Y. Then I would love the see a ball fake pop pass with him. Would be nice to have him out blocking for tunnel screens (and maybe even a bubble here or there when numbers dictate) with Erv/Bris/Strick getting the ball in space. Ish is more of a Alec Lemon 2.0.

Most of the reps on offense should go to Steve, Brisly, Ben, Ervin, and Dontae with Jordan as your primary RB. You also don't need TE that can't run like Parris, and Moore, try Enoicy, and Custis at that position. You need TE that can get to the corner to block, like Clark, for the option, because we don't use a FB like Konrad in this offense.
