3 wasted years

Insiders seemed to claim BH didnt drop out and it was for PR. and for god sake who cares what his demeanor is? JB was a total dick and he won 1100 games.
This. It’s also worth seeing which posts in the coaching search thread that Jake, Bulldog, and others liked. Several posters throwing out hypotheses about JB tanking the BH hire behind the scenes and BH picking up on not being welcome here. Those posts got a lot of insider activity.

Jb treated reporters like dirt for years. I dont condone what bh did. But if your not going to hire a good coach over that. It's pretty petty.

He didn’t get hired because enough donors didn’t support him. If their reasons were several steps down the line from the mean thing he said that one time - which they might’ve been - then that’s just actions having consequences. Be who you can afford to be.

You’ll never hear any pity from me for the sports journalists, btw. Part of their job is to ask coaches and players who just had their hopes and dreams dashed how the game went, lol. Their job necessitates that they ask objectively rude and condescending things. I don’t have a problem with an old grouch being rude and condescending to them. It gets them clicks and it comes with the territory. They’re hypocrites if they clutch their pearls. “Hey coach, you guys sucked today and you made the whole town sad. Tell us about that.” Lol, yeah be cool to that guy.

Plenty of fault to go around over the last decade for the programs decline.

I’m interested to know if people here are actually angry at GMac though?

Just saying support or don’t. be angry or not but I’m not sure I see what GMac did wrong or should’ve done differently over the years. Sitting 3rd or 4th man down the bench in hoops is the same as being a special teams coach for football imo.

Hammer the old man or ADs or board or donors or fans or a million different things but to me it seems like GMac is just shooting his shot right now.

I mean did we expect to gmac to bow out of the conversation because he thought better candidates were out there and he needed more experience.

Most coaches have poor coaching trees. It’s more common to have nobody succeed than it is to have multiple guys succeed. This is true across sports. I think it’s because being a head coach is so dependent on personality and motivation and ego. There are lots of guys who can understand all of the steps needed to be a good coach; they could lead TED talks on coaching philosophy and strategies and fundamentals. But doing it is fundamentally different.

Mike Tomlin coached very successfully for a very long time. His coaching tree was poop until one guy emerged with a very successful run and a Super Bowl. Gerry could be that one guy (or he could suck. We don’t know).
So yeah, we should go outside the family becuase it is very unlikely anyone from the family would succeed because it is exceedingly rare. Granted, almost 50 years you should have a least one coach made a couple tournaments.

Yeah but that outside guy came from a successful coach who is likely to have a bad coaching tree himself, so he’s as likely to suck.

That’s the rub.

Gmac was assigned lead crooter by JAB on numerous higher end croots.

I think he whiffed on pretty much all of them.

AI = LOL.
Says Dior Johnson was GMac’s highest rated recruit.

Also mentions Quadir & JGIII.

Red clearly blows as a game coach, but he’s proven to be a decent recruiter.

Did GMac whiff or were the croots confused why they never got to see the old man running the show and why they were playing zone defense?

Either way, good news, Gerry will hire a recruiter.

I’ve been for McNamara since he walked off the court on his senior day.
Same. This was an easy decision. Schertz is at St. Louis. No one else wanted him. Hodge went to providence.

Mac is the best hire. Trust me. He coaches better than our options.

Q was one of the top PGs in the country. JG3 was a beast at Clemson. We just misused him. Malik is on a national title contending team and does everything right on the court.

I don't know, I just remember fewer recruiting victories when Gerry led the charge versus other coaches. I also remember a couple of people, on this board who provide reliable info, share that he's really not a likeable guy. I have no idea if that's true but it would fit. It might also be why Jim likes him so much, they're probably similar in that way. Bottom line though is I don't care, I just want to win again so I'm hoping Gerry can do it even though I feel it was a bad hire.

"No one else wanted him" St Louis gave him over double what we're paying Gerry to stay at St. Louis. He'll be at a massive program next year or the year after.
