32nd coaches Poll, 24 votes. 35 AP, 7 points

Of course polls are overrated, and routinely and predictably inaccurate. But they provide relevance. Ranked teams get mentioned on every sports segment, and get shown on every electronic update. More than anything it keeps your team top-of-mind to the casual fan and to recruits.

We get to 5-0 and NC State is one loss or undefeated we will see the mother of all rises in rankings for tv purposes

When we faced Miami in 94 they pushed us up to 10 before that game. We were a 1 loss team to boot
I'm no expert on rankings, but I don't think upcoming TV broadcasts impact either poll.
We were 6-1 at the time with our one loss against #16 Oklahoma in game 1 that we lost in similar fashion to how we beat Purdue - a field position gift for unsportsmanlike celebration that gave them a short field leading to a last second FG. We beat 14th ranked VA tech a few weeks after. I don't know what happened in the rankings ahead of us leading g up to that game, but we were on a nice roll.

Yeah.

Fact is arguably the most important ranking is your pre-season ranking until you're like 8 games in.
This is the truth. If we were 26-30 preseason, we would probably be in upper teens right now. If we were 25, we would be sub 15 right now. So many voters just move teams down for early losses and other listed/ranked teams up. If you're not on the preseason list, it's really hard to break in, but once you're in, you can move up pretty quickly if you keep winning.

B/c he’s a douche and should be called out for it. Being a jerk as a local writer towards the local team has local economic impact he clearly doesn’t care about it either. Being ranked will get fringe fans to the dome thus having a positive overall impact. His vote doesn’t make that true but not voting is a douche move. This team shouldn’t supplant anyone right now but at the same time this is a 20-25 team right now.

But my original response was also a little douche and didn’t mean it to come off the way it prob sounds.
everyone is fair game.

him not voting for us, sucks.

but maybe he just got distracted by the Syracuse football twitter girl tweeting about what she fed her fish and how excited she was for QE2's funeral...

That Oklahoma team wasn't as good as Purdue IMO. We did beat Va Tech and that was a big win for sure. I'm just saying we had no business moving up to 10th. We went from 21st on October 8th, beat Pitt, went to 16 beat a terrible temple in a shootout, and then were ranked 10th.

It was illogical really. I expect similar here. Move to 21 or so next week with a win, move up to 16 after wagner win and then the bye week. Watch where we end up. I think some of it depends on how NC State fares. If they are undefeated the game will be really marketed. the voters want compelling matchups too

It matters not if Purdue is better than that OU team. The OU team was ranked #16, Purdue was not. Nothing happening in 2022 had any bearing on 1994 rankings, and vice versa.

They were ranked but they were an average team at best.

No big names and finished 6-6.

At 32...we COULD sneak in with an impressive showing if we get some help (30 would be better). 35 we are probably too far. AP we likely need to go 6-0 (which is sort of bs)

Well, 6-0 with a win against a potential Top 10 team by then in NC State...and we may be looking at not just top 25, but a top 15 ranking. Baby steps though...

Let's just keep winning the game in front of us and being ranked will take care of itself.
