50k in the dome next week

Deserve? Yes. Practical? No. The fair weather fans reaction will be, "That was just Rhode Island and Wake Forest. Let's see what they do against LSU". Then if they lose to LSU, it will be "SU sucks". Sad and unfortunately true.
C'mon now. Low hanging fruit "logic" on your part. So "if they lose to LSU, it will be "SU sucks"? Really? You simplify "their" thought process.

This goes WAY beyond the final score of the LSU game this year. There is a significant recent history (of "their" emotional and monetary investment) to consider. Gotta win them back based on performance and value. Just the way it is.

We were pretty good in 2012 and 2013. One bad year, and these crybabies want to start the "woe is me" crap. It's not 2006 anymore. We have a decent enough program.

I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the low turnout today. Coming off a 47-0 win, there was no heat to use as an excuse, first ACC game of the year, honoring Coach Mac, free tickets for students...and we had fewer people than the previous week.

What the hell?

I don't completely disagree but we won 3 games last year and most of the games were painful to watch. We have some exciting players and some young exciting players. If we play well this year (bowl game I think shows that) then we can at least say we are building a decent+ program. It's hard to say we have a decent program unless your a die hard fan coming off a 3 win season. IMO.

We've won bowl games in 3 of the past 5 seasons, and are currently 2-0 with lots of young talent. The fact that fewer people showed up this week than last week just irritates the hell out of me.

The fair-weather tools are just the worst.

Low turnout but more than last week IMO.

Meh, they made up the number last week. Printed off a ton of tickets and gave them away so the attendance figure for the opener wouldn't be under 30,000. But there were more people in the house today, and they were louder. (Not that either crowd was good, of course.)

People bitch and moan about syracuse.com and negative reports, but there was little to no marketing of the program/players this summer. When other schools have a "___ Out", there is usually a t-shirt/towel give away. Should that be required to get people to show? No, it shouldn't. However, it's what people are used to and around here it's no different.

I know Coyle says changes are going to the gameday atmosphere, which is good. There was no reason that today's game shouldn't have had an Orange "Coach Mac Day" shirt from Holy Shirt as a giveaway. Like it or not, those extra things are what influence the casual fan's attendance.

being there looked more full for wake than rhode island

The ticket-purchase decision, in most cases, has been made weeks or months ago so last week's result does little to fill the Dome. Walk-up crowds add 3K+/- tickets if you're lucky.

It's a momentum thing. Gotta build it over time (unless you have Notre Dame etc in town, and that results in a lot of their fans attending so not what we're looking for).

Must be a bummer for the players as well...

We won the pinstripe and Texas bowl and sucked beyond suck before that and then again last year. ...it's going to take time or one BIG year.

Sadly I agree...I'm guessing 32,300

The CNY Diaspora has had a huge effect on the crowds the last 20 years.
Good projection, but I had to go to google that D word 1st!

We have an exciting, true freshmen QB that can make big plays down the field. I think attendance will rise throughout his tenure on the hill. People love a winning team but most of all they want to be entertained. This team has a future for the first time in forever and they will be exponentially more fun to watch each year moving forward.

"Are you not entertained"!!!!

It's embarrassing. Unfortunately no words on this board will force people to go to the game. I am just sick and tired of the excuses. The lack of fan support makes a Syracuse home game look like an amateur hour production. Regardless of how well the University/team performs. I've been going to games since 1995 and the support has decayed every year since then. Sure, the program deserves some of the blame, but they don't deserve this.

Syracuse fans can say what they want about Rutgers, VA Tech BC etc., but at least those programs still have solid support despite the product on the field.

Embarrassing.

Compare the last decades results of each of the programs you mentioned above. Then compare there attendance figures and tell me if there's any correlation. I think you will see that there is.

AD Coyle said he has spent many sleepless nights over the past two months trying to come up with ideas on how to get the fans back in the dome. How about starting a thread on this website with ideas and have one of the administrators submit the ideas to AD Coyle. Who better than the die hard fans on Syracuse.Com to assist the AD with this situation.

Key point there...Today Football is purely a entertainment diversion for most. Last year was painful. We have a 30% chance IMHO to go 5-1 this year.

I imagine season ticket sales have decreased as well. I wonder what percent of the attendance is season ticket holders

You're kidding right? Last decade we had Greg Robinson for almost half of it and there were almost 15k more people at those games than there were yesterday.

In 1999 we lost to VA Tech 0-62. The next week's home game? We had 48k in attendance. Look it up.

Rutgers best record in its pathetic 125 yr history is 11-3 in 2006. Yet there SPRING GAME attendance could rival our home game attendances.

What else you got?
