6 rushing yards, 5 interceptions

Va Tech and Cal get after the QB really well, this line needs to get its act together, or both of those teams are going to do the exact same thing as Pitt, presumably minus 3 pick sixes. I hope.

FWIW, our totals among non-QB rushers was 20 carries for 38 yards. That's unfathomably bad.

And what's more worrisome is how we're getting worse and worse at running as the season goes along...

Ohio: 25 carries, 127 yards = good
Ga Tech: 26 carries, 129 yards = good
Stanford: 12 carries, 34 yards = ugly
UNLV: 28 carries, 128 yards = good
NC State: 31 carries, 96 yards = bad
Pitt: 20 carries, 38 yards = ugly

This staff needs to spend all weekend locked in a room at the football facility fixing the run game. It's a freakin' mess.
Bring back the freeze option. I've had this issue with pretty much every coach since P.

Let's get under center more and figure out play action, some power sweeps, etc. The shotgun rb plays with this atrocious line will never work

I’m not that concerned about the running game. We’ve started games establishing the passing attack and it’s for the most part worked for us this season very successfully. Sometimes you have to adjust even before you think you need to. I think if we planned to establish the run game early this game could’ve gone significantly different. I’m fascinated to see how we respond because even the press conferences last night seems like that accountability was prevalent.

I'm concerned. Seven games into the season and we've yet to have a great day running the ball. I'm not sure we're capable, honestly. And if that's the case we need to stop trying 15 inside runs every game.

I dont think it was any tells at all.

Pitt just played downhill and forced the oline to block, Then the DBs sat on the short passes. When we held up we didn't get many open looks anyway and we dropped the one pretty simple TD pass though he was held and those few inches probably made the difference.
My fault, yes I agree that yesterday wasn't about that. Speaking very generally

It also highlights Gadsen has a long way to go to be an NFL player. He plays within the margins in getting open. He doesn't have high end TE speed. He isn't overly physical.

He can't be an NFL WR and beat DBs. He is more of a floater than a runner.

I think it’s because of the game plan so far, not because we aren’t capable of a solid run game. We were a play from being 6-0 going into last night let’s not forget that. The run game has been improving every week, even last night the stats were deceiving. We were getting decent push on the few run plays we did run before it was 17-0.

The run game has literally not been improving every week. In fact, it's getting worse as the season goes on. Three of our past 4 games have been lousy...

Stanford: 12 carries, 34 yards, 2.8 YPC
UNLV: 28 carries, 128 yards
NC State: 31 carries, 96 yards, 3.1 YPC
Pitt: 20 carries, 38 yards, 1.9 YPC

Our 1st quarter non-QB rushes were...

6 yards
4 yards
0 yards
-2 yards
8 yards
-2 yards
0 yards

7 carries, 14 yards.

Awful.

I wonder if offenses that are too multiple are easier to predict.

I bet there are clear patterns in all the personnel groupings and formations

I prefer simpler offenses with no tells
I absolutely believe this.

You could have a million different formations, if the running back always runs between the right guard and right tackle, the defense is going to figure that out regardless of the formation.

The pattern isn't the formation, it's the play.

I'm sure. He's not.

The painfully slow developing roll out left move is a big tell now. There was one where Witherspoon blocked his guy with a red cape. But on others, all they have to do is blitz between the center and right guard, then send someone wide out side the left tackle. He just rolls right into it.

Late game heroics by Allen against UNLV cover up how bad he's been. Never makes anyone miss. Just not shifty at all and then has no burst to run outside.

I'm not sure that Kyle McCord is the guy you want running the option.
it's a tool to use. i think philcox ran it and he wasn't Lamar Jackson. I'm just saying having some plays designed to give the running game a chance would be helpful. Everything in college football is pass to set up the run now. When you have a press cover team like Pitt taking away the run like play to Pena, they need to be able to figure out a diff way to run it vs into a sea of big guys

I think the issue is we still don’t have the OL talent needed for an effective run game. I would’ve thought all the passing would open up the run but it hasn’t.
Our line hasn’t shown the ability to open running lanes all year - even vs lesser opponents.

I know it was a Thursday night and getting to an away game is logistically difficult for a lot of people during the week, but I was still kind of surprised by the low turnout of Syracuse fans last night. There were maybe 250 of us in the entire stadium.

Everyone blew their budget going to Vegas.

Not to pile on but Kyle’s 4th in the country in passing attempts while we have the 125th ranked rushing offense. He’s going to keep getting picked, opposing Ds don’t have to play honest. Not even a little bit. Coaching staff has to change something to help him

We just dont have the guys todowhat we need.

I think part of it is scheme. Our running attack is very much like Dino's system was. It is too basic and doesn't have a lot of success nationally anymore. Especially with no threat of a QB run.

That said we don't block well.
U misspelled cant block at all lol

What heis doing is playing to not get hurt insteadof laying it all on the line. i saw that on the touchdown he dropped cause he didnt lay out like a guy who wants to play in the NFL.

Im not disagreeing with u but he got hit at los everyplay but 2or 3. Thats on oline. We all knew what Pitt was gonna do. Bring the house period.
