7 years ago, today!

Is there another program that has fallen so hard during that time?
We last made the NCAA’s (sweet 16) in 2021 in the ACC Wake Forest, Fla St, Stanford, California, Boston College and Georgia Tech haven’t made the NCAA’s since 2021 some even longer

Big 10 - Nebraska, Maryland and Minnesota
Big 12 - West Virginia, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State
SEC - S Carolina and Missouri
≠==================================================
Boston College last made the tournament in 2009. Nebraska and Stanford last made the NCAA’s in 2014. Cal in 2016.
Wake Forest and South Carolina in 2017. Minnesota in 2019.

Just an aside, Ohio St and LSU haven’t made it since 2022.Oregon St from the old Pac12 plus any program not mentioned above also hasn’t made it since 2021.

I don't believe that Nebraska has ever won an NCAAT game.

The difference between ALL those teams and us, is we are freaking SYRACUSE. I know we need a chancellor, AD and new head coach, but they need to get this right. The right choice turns this around QUICKLY.

Didn’t include the Big East - Georgetown, Butler and DePaul haven’t made the NCAA’s either

To be honest we weren't even "good" by Syracuse standards 7 years ago (2019).
But I would gladly take those perennial bubble years from 2016-2019 over what we have now.
Agreed we had several good runs in 16, 18 and 21. 2020 might have been pretty good too...but we haven't reallt been Top 10 relevant since 2014. That BS NCAA investigation killed the momentum and Jim B. staying on after 2015 or so didn't help.

Now history and pedigree of a program can be easily supplanted by $$$ to buy a team.

16 was a good team - won Atlantis, won at Duke, two first round picks...they piled up losses when JB was put on ice.

You know it’s bad when the good old days were days when you also yearned for the good old days
Man that's perfect. I was thinking about that. We're literally yearning for the bubble days where we were 5 years into a bad slide and complaining about the state of the program.

I wonder what shape we would have been in after that investigation with the loss of scholarships, lack of assistants on the road etc from the sanctions, if Hop had to face those difficult circumstances. For 4 years from 2015-2016 through the 2018-2019 seasons we lost 8 scholarships with probation lasting 5 years through 2020. Would Hop have had a record of 103-74 over those 5 years of probation or an average of 21-14 record per year during probation? Would we have lured another big name coach who would have faced probation his first years in the job? Immediately after probation ended the Covid years started for the next 3 years. Tough years to start a head coaching job for any coach.

We made the tournament 3 of the 5 probation years which included a Covid cancelled tournament year and a final 4 in 2016 and sweet 16 in 2018. With NIL, transfer portal changes and even conference changes with the addition of SMU, Stanford and Cal it’s a different world now for fans, players and of course, coaches.

Not with Hop...however, if they hired an established HC or hit the lottery with a Nate Oats, etc...it might have turned out much better

Ofcourse it is all in the past

We need to hit a home run with the next hire

Wow didn’t know that - 0-8 in NCAA games.
My brother was at Penn when they beat them. Jerome Allen and Matt Maloney in the backcourt. I think Allen had a high school teammate that was a pretty good wide receiver...

That was the big mistake, JB should have left after the probation or been reassigned to another position. And a new coach should have been brought in.
