8/20/15 Practice # 12 At Fort Drum

If Dungey is going to start next year and the staff believes that they need to get him as many snaps as possible this year. There is nothing like live game action to prepare a kid. He needs to play

He can get plenty of snaps in practice. It would be crazy to burn a year of eligibility for a guy who could be a legit four year starter just to get him a few garbage time snaps in live games. That fourth year is much more valuable than whatever token game exerience he'd gain playing with and against third stringers in mop up duty.

Remember Johnny Morant? Remember how good he was his fifth year after that all conference fourth year he had? Neither do I -- because he didn't have a fifth year of elgibility due to the coaching staff blowing his redshirt over a few token snaps early in his freshman season.

I think Hunt's ceiling is probably somewhere around "pretty good." I haven't watched practice this year so I cannot speak to his improvement. I do feel comfortable saying that he was worse in 2014 than he was in 2013. There are factors that contributed to that, but I don't think he should get a complete pass (pun intended). Hunt has two impressive games on his resume (BC 2013, Minnesota 2013). That is not enough for me to call him a "proven winner or leader."

I don't see myself as a downer with Hunt. I have hopes that he will look like the guy in those games for most of this season. I do not think it is completely out of the realm of possibility that Dungey is better than Hunt already. I am not saying it is likely. I really cannot say at all because I haven't seen either practice this year, but I do not think it is an impossibility.

You're not a downer on Hunt. People have a right to be skeptical. He looked like the future when he was given the reigns against Wagner and Tulane, then struggled mightily against the bulk of the schedule before really coming on against BC and Minnesota. That in and of itself is inconsistent.

Then his 2014 season, putting aside the fact that I'm sure McDonald's confusion laden offense had it's own negative impact on him, he still looked like he regressed. McDonald's offense didn't cause him to sail 5 yard passes 15 feet over receivers' heads. McDonald's offense didn't cause him to overthrow on long balls. Now the last two games he played that season, I'm convinced he was also negatively affected by injury and playing hurt - but he doesn't deserve a complete pass on the 2014 season because of McDonald and injuries. He looked rough before the injuries.

Hopefully the positive signs out of camp so far indicate that he's more of his Wagner, Tulane, BC and Minnesota self and not the self in between those games and the early part of the 2014 season. He still has a lot to prove. And the Dungey news I feel is the best thing for Hunt - to have someone who could legitimately be nipping at his heels for playing time this season as the season progresses will help keep him sharp and focused.

Hunt's a competitor and a leader which i admire greatly, hopefully he can figure out the mechanics and fine tune his god given talent and become a complete offensive weapon.

I dont agree. QB is one position that real game experience is very valuable

Regarding AJ, does his physical ability and skill set lend themselves to him possibly moving to DB? I'm not suggesting that he should, nor do I know if he played DB in high school, I'm just curious. With our lack of safeties and perhaps depending on if 2 QBs get brought in, could that be a possibility? I'm not trying to stir the pot. Perhaps others with more football experience or coaching experience would be able to answer. With his Syracuse tat, I don't see him transferring!

IMO, he doesn't have the speed to play anywhere in the defensive back field.
