They might be taking this explosive plays thing too far. This kind of discrepancy is crazy.

What's Dungey's QBR after Saturday?

His yards per completion avg has to be up there nationally as well.

How about Baylor?

796 yds passing, 712 yds rushing!, in TWO GAMES! 9.25 yds per play and they are running 80+ plays a game.

That is nuts, but enough of that.

I love what Lester is doing, a lot of misdirection, multiple concepts, tight rotations at the skill positions, some packaged plays. Everyone is a receiver, everyone can be a running back. Pass game has both vertical and horizontal concepts, really attacking all areas of the field.

Would love to see Dungey run the Marrone/Hackett 4 option play, in particular in the red zone, when Parris gets back. You could also switch it up and run it with Custis.

This offense is generating chunk plays, which is awesome, but part of the reason they are running so few is they can't convert third downs. 2 of 17 the last two games. As much as you don't think it's important, you aren't going to beat the better teams on the schedule like that.

Not that the yds per play would hold but if they could get to 75 plays a game, which is normal, and did have the same yds per play they would be at 478 yds per game, which would be good for top 35.

If he had enough attempts per game he would be 3rd in the country, he has a rating 204.03, but only 12 attempts per game. He'd also be good for 3rd in yds per attempt.

Lester is on to something, but we need to run more plays, and get some more production from the tailbacks. We have three good ones, love to see us at 200 plus per game and not relying on the QB to generate a lot on the ground.

For this offense 48/24 run/pass split would be fine.

National average on third down is somewhere around 40 percent. Even last year we were at 34% during one of the worst offensive years in college football history. 39% in 2013, 49% (!) in 2012, 43% in 2011, 38% in 2010.

We are currently converting at an 36% clip but 11% over the last 2 games. That should go up and our production should too. Which should be quite encouraging.

Last year was 110th out of 128, this year 95th.

It was one of the first things that Marrone was able to fix and was a leading indicator on how they were getting things repaired.

Under GRob in 2008 they were 116th at 28.85, in 2009 slight improvement to 110th 31.76, then 73rd, 45th, and finally 9th.

And last year was one of the worst years in SU history, college history is a bit of an exaggeration.

This. I cannot believe it will stay bad. Not with Dungey.

I hope we get Erv back soon. He is a big part of the O.

Time of possession problem is all that tells me. I will take the 36th in yards per play all day long. We are making explosion plays and that is what we need. I have no problem with the Dungey led offense. If the D gets more stops we would have more yards per game.

regarding third downs

we are at 42% when dungey throws, which is fine. i'm not too worried about

dungey had a 3rd and 9, 3rd and 3 (juggled i think right below us). he was 0-2 but who is complaining.

after that, the offense was terrible on every down. couple 3rd and 3 runs to start the 2nd half going nowhere - horrible blocking the second half

3rd and 29 in there

3rd and 10 where picked up nine and punted like morons.

then a key 3rd and 5 in overtime that they converted.

our running game really drops off in the second half

Running game dropped off in 2nd half due to having no QB (I would think). Looking through the play by play, didn't seem like the running game was horrible in the 2nd half vs. Wake. And URI you can throw out basically.

If we have to pass to set up the run, we're like 90% of the other teams in D1. Nothing wrong with that at all.

i think we have real offensive line problems though. qbs and rbs are talented enough to get big plays when they're there, but i'm concerned about blockers

the oline is the issue more than the QB. given the 3 teams we have played you would think we would at times just knock them off the ball and run, but we can do that. all the runs come from mis direction and none from a power running game. a mobile QB hides some of that, i already wonder about next year since we lose 3-4 of these guys. i think Center we are ok even with trudo out i dont see a huge difference but havent watched the last game yet to see where the blocking issues were.. i do know the backside tackle has failed and that may be play design more than blocking

Couple of those 3rd down conversions have gone to Moore. You'd think he and Lewis could be could for some more short throws over the middle if teams have to focus on Ish, Estime and Erv clearing out zones.

Don't disagree. People can think whatever they want about Adam or the talent he was handed, but the line has gotten worse since he's come on board. If that's not a direct reflection of coaching I'm not sure what is.
