The talent disparity is not what it once was. With 68 teams in the tournament, UNCA and LIU are actually #15 seeds, Norfolk St. and Lehigh are actually #14 seeds, and so on.

It will happen, probably within the next several years.

Nope. I don't see it happening in the next several years. We'll be the super-close game referenced for the next several years though. I do predict that.

Don't blink. Might be tonight.

was chaminade better than these 16 seeds when it beat virginia?

also the #1 s are not getting better every year but the 16s sure are

With the First 4 now having 4 16s competing for 2 real 16 seed 2 new 16's are now old 15 seeds. I can see a 16 seed winning in the near future. If a team like 2006 Villanova or 2011 Missouri who play a 4 guard lineup get a 1 seed they could lose to a 16 seed that can keep up with them.

THey will win eventually because the 1's and 2's aren't nearly as good as they used to be. The talent difference isn't what it used to be.

It'll happen eventually, hope it isn't us.

The tournament keeps expanding, so the 16 seeds keep getting better by default.

For this reason alone, it's gonna happen some day.

It will happen. Asheville's RPI was higher than many Big East teams (e.g., Villanova, St. John's).

I agree that it will happen. Not only the parity of talent occurring but there's now more accurate seeding. There's more comparative information about them, more film and most mid majors now schedule big D1 teams during the season. They usually play the Bigs away so playing D1's at a neutral site isn't as scary a situation. If a mid major doesn't schedule some big D1 competition during the season it's held against them in even earning a bid in the first place.

True, but most 15s and 16s are automatic qualifiers.

Someday this war will end

Yes but 16 seeds like Lehigh played St John's, Iowa St and Michigan St (lost all 3 but by a total of only 23 points)and UNC Asheville played NC St, UNC and UConn (losing all 3 by a total of 35 points). The big schools are seen all the time and they know them. There's not the fear factor there used to be- these teams believe they can compete now and many do.

Yeah, that's pretty much what the Norfolk St. players said. They couldn't wait for the opportunity to play a big school at a neutral site.
