Shafer did everything right except putting more wins in the column.

At the the end of the day, that's what matters most, winning games. Even with Shafer as HC, our stated goals were to win the conference and compete for a NC, you don't do that by winning 3 games in back to back seasons.

When the dust settles I'll have fond memories of his role in turning the program around when he came to the hill as D coordinator. I won't forget about Tom Savage getting sacked again and again and again with an undermanned defense in Coach Shafer's first year, followed by Geno Smith running for his life in the three times he faced our hard nosed, blitzing D.
