A Change Would Do You Good

Plethora?

Is that like a cornucopia?
“Would you say I have a plethora of piñatas?"

"A what?"

"A plethora."

“Oh yes, you have a plethora."

“Jefe, what is a plethora?"

"Why, El Guapo?”

“Well you told me I have a plethora. And I would just like to know if you know what a plethora is. I would not like to think that a person would tell someone he has a plethora, and then find out that person has no idea what it means to have a plethora”

“Forgive me, El Guapo. I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education. But could it be that once again, you are angry at something else and are looking to take it out on me”

An offensive coordinator should be able to move the ball in a variety of ways, if necessary. Look how we moved the ball with the wildcat on one drive. Navy runs for 275 YPG, but somehow also passes for 100+ YPG. At some point, the chef has to make AN entree. If he does not have the ingredients to make his favorite entree, he needs to serve something though.

The wildcat showed that our offensive line can run block from time to time. Imagine if we had just had Villari throw one pass. What's the worst that could have happened? A Pick-Six. We had four of those against Miami/ND (with one called back by a pity penalty). Why not have Rickie run a wildcat? He could have faked one out of 8 runs and thrown a long pass to loosen up the defense.

The bye week after SMU would have been a great time to start working in some new concepts... but Nixon couldn't or wouldn't. I guess we will just be a one dish pony and hope for the best. Maybe our QB stays healthy next year, but our tackles get hurt or are a disaster. Or we have WR injuries. Seems like we will always need a healthy team to have an offense with Nixon...
That's why Fran needs to move on from Nixon now, and find someone who can effectively throw the ball and run it.
There have to be creative Coaches out there who can do both, and that's what Fran needs if he is going to compete for Championships.

There are not a lot of guys out there. Especially ones we can afford. Outside of the ECU guy who peaks your interest? If we can bring him in, then send Nixon packing. But chances are we get a guy who is worse and/or has never called plays.

If I am Fran and I am evaluating I see that with handpicked QB1 season 1 and 4 games season 2 Nixon offense was one of the nations best and put up points so many points it covered for our terrible defense. So I would think Nixon is a must keep I need that offense back while I try and fix the defense.

I would have a conversation about what we prioritize in a QB on tape we are looking for ability to read defense, quick release, and accuracy anything else like great athlete or arm strength is a bonus. Get a stable of like QBs an train them in the system. In college, system is important so get players that fit system especially QB.
I just don't see why any kid would want to be in a stable. Go where you can play!

When your QBs stink you're not moving the ball. People want QB to not matter as much as it does but it's everything

Put me in the camp where we acquire the best QBs possible & to fit our offense to that QB.

Its an absurd prerequisite that an offense needs an all American level QB in order to win 3 or more games.

Give me an equal parts runner & thrower.

Nixon needs to be flexible, or leave, unless we can secure 2 Angelis every year.

to be fair he has said since day one he recruits kids and lets them know it’s him who will be here but their position coach might not be

If he's sought-after, you're right. That's where scouting comes in. You find a guy at a lower level that has been overlooked and offer him the chance to learn for a year as the #2 guy and compete for the #1 job the following year. This is where the coaches really earn their money.

Yeah, a solid competent QB should give us a good offense. An all-american level QB should give us a great offense. This is why we need to fix the oline. The QB should be the most important piece but not have to constantly be a hero.

The line is the number problem, by far, IMO.

Absent a functioning line, its ideal to have a QB who can create something from broken plays, & an OC whom is adaptive.

See my reply above. I agree. Just don’t expect me to believe all the culture, family and DART stuff isn’t anything more than marketing.
It's the same ".A.M.I.L.Y./Keep Chopping" nonsense we used to make fun of Rutgers for under Schiano.

Makes sense since Fran coached under him

It is real, the coaches are real, living it out in actuality is a daily thing. It is still a business. That is what you just realize it is more than a game, how ever the medium can make great impact, I know this. If they were winning you would change your tune and I suspect no matter what you have no clue concerning good hearted intentions. That is why he is here. I wish CFB well. Stay true to yourself, DART

Our fans won't admit it but there are a lot of similarities between the two. A lot of the stuff we say about Schiano, other fan bases say about Fran.

They were winning last year when I caught grief for saying DART is a marketing slogan.

And I’ll say for the hundredth time, I’m fine with it. I like slogans. I like marketing. It’s a good thing for a program to have.

I also believe that the staff cares about the players and does their best to guide them on and off the field.

I just don’t think DART has magical powers and is some cheat code to building a winning program.

There are programs all over the country with great cultures.

Appreciate the discussion, Thank you. However in a place such as this you better live that culture and multiply it in a sustained fashion. That is what Coach Mac did with translation to the future staff with literally little to no support. I trust that can be achieved again and there is definitely a ton of support at the present time. in order to create this, fancy slogans and pretty acronyms will literally fall by the wayside and mean nothing if it is not carried out. Certainly includes winning and he knows that, however there is much more to it. Again it is much more than a marketing slogan, Especially to the players who are so impressionable, merely out of age and certainly still culture. May it be good, I trust that is certainly what most of us want. I appreciate you.
