We went from Hunt and ??? at the beginning of the season to ED, Mahoney, and ??? - a vast improvement in my mind, and with Long healthly next season and Rex coming in, I'd say our QB situation actually looks pretty good for the next few years.
We actually have a return game this season - a big part of the reason that the team stayed competitive so long in this game. About time and what a difference it makes.
The O-line has rebounded from last season and the D-line seems to be much better than many posters feared. Great to see.
We were tied for 16th fewest penalties per game (4.33) going into LSU, we will surely be ranked higher after today - a huge turnaround from the last, what, 12 years and a big difference maker.
SU won the strength vs strength battle by holding LSU to under 300 yds rushing which I think was a good effort for SU. To my mind LSU won the game because they won the weakness vs weakness battle with their big pass plays in the second half.
It is worth saying again; 5th string walk-on QB, in first start, leads team to 24 pts against #8 team, more pts than we scored in any of 9 games last season (all losses by the way). And that included ~7 throws into the feet of our receivers! The guy is getting about 20% better every quarter he plays. As someone said earlier today, "we have the best 5th string QB in the world", and that's a start.
Great to see the staff go for it on 4th down in LSU territory - this is a big improvement in their decision making; playing to win the game and not to hope to win the game.
If ED was healthy and LSU only got two lucky plays instead of 4...
