First thing that happened Friday night was that we timed the two screen passes to Strickland perfectly.. The first on he made the guy miss and scores without the 2 lead Oline blockers really even making a block.
The 2nd screen later was also a perfect all, Clemson dude make a solid tackle or we might take that one 70 yds to the house as well, again multiple lead blockers that never made a block.. Had Strickland a bit of room to make the guy miss again its a huge play.. very nice call timing on both of those
The trick play to Dungey, watching it on the replay you can see that it only failed because 99 the freak DE that Clemson has held ED on the break and it went uncalled, if he gets a clean release he is wide open early and then its just the safety to beat in the open field.
The PI calls were missed all night. Clemson was beat 4-5 other times that went uncalled, but Ish needs to be a bit better at knowing when he needs more advantage and when he doesnt, he got away with a couple but the one that brought back the TD was too marginal to call.
Custis only played a few snaps but he got open. He has been open all year , he is not as dynamic as Butler in the open field but really in his limited snaps he has been pretty good. His first throw he turned the DB and made a nice catch.. The 2nd one he broke the press and was gone but the throw was way under thrown allowing the DB to get his hands on the ball and knock it away even with the PI call.
Nice scouting, we have been throwing that WR screen all year and Fri we slipped it 3-4 times for big chunk plays. Now Miami has to honor both which may open it up better when we do throw it.
There were holes to run all night.. The Clemson DTs were just so agile they shut down several from the backside. Lets hope thats a trend in blocking.
