A NIL Collective for Basketball - It's a Shame Syracuse Doesn't Have One

SU getting a direct nil link for fans

Not sure if everyone realizes how NIL and collectives work and exactly what the Athletic Department can do regarding those activities. There are two options to set up a collective. The first is to contract with a commercial entity. That is what was done with SANIL and Orange United, Once SANIL ceased operations negotiations were held with the only other active group (at the time), BluePrint Sports, but their terms were deemed to be unworkable by Syracuse. The other option is for an interested group of donors, business or other individuals to launch and manage the NIL fromt end. Those activities include establishing a mechanism for harvesting donations, contracting with student athletes by pairing them up with various business opportunities, confirming obligations have been met, issuing payment and reporting for compliance and tax purposes. That is what is being done by SU Football NIL and what I did the first two years of SyraCRUZ on a much smaller scale using the University's Accelerate platform and INFLNCR app. Once the collective is established the AD can support in many ways publicizing, making athletes available, compliance reporting and other administrative activities but until a group steps forward they are in limbo. We've been told that they are in the final stages of getting that set up but until all i's are dotted and t's crossed things are at a standstill.

Great insights here, my friend. I keep pressing SU about this, and as you noted, perhaps something will be announced soon. To me, having a collective is more ideal than a group of donors doing something, just because the collective is probably easier in terms of fans donating to it. But yes, SU Athletics isn't the one forming such an entity ... well said, brother.

It's insane that we still dont have a live NIL collective to donate to. How was this botched so badly?!?!
This is the same group that spells retired jerseys wrong, so you can't set the bar low enough for the crew on the hill.

Looks like the INFLNCR platform bought a vowel. Same platform I enrolled in with SyraCRUZ and it appears to be active today but only one current athlete is registered. NIL education at SU previously recommended every student athlete register in the platform and at one point there were almost 700 enrollees.

Supposedly, SU is already using their the Teamworks "GM" platform to manage the school's Rev Share allocation monies...

Syracuse Selects Teamworks GM to Transform Revenue Sharing into Competitive Advantage

Altho, I did notice that there is no Syracuse "S" logo on the GM Platform page in the scrolling school logios supposedly using that platform, so not sure if they are ACTUALLY using it...

I am sure BB is likely kicking the tires on all these processes and outlining plans for implementing changes to modernize things more... It's no secret he may have to get some people in the department culturally on board for these changes and rowing in the same direction. Wouldn't surprise me if he has some organizational restructuring planned as well, and that some pink slips and new hires would also be part of that - but we'll see.

Don't know why they are not emphasizing the marketplace exchange features any longer. Pretty efficient porgram. A business or individual can register, is approved by compliance, then has access to communicate and transact with any registered player. This can be anything from a request for an autograph, personal appearance or social media post to a six figure sponsorship deal, Any transaction proposal is approved by compliance Person offering the transaction certifies that all requirements have been met and provides source of funding (bank account or credit card.) Payment is issued through the platform minus a small fee (1 1/2%?) and reported to Compliance. At the end of the year the athlete receives an aggregated 1099.
There is some administrative burden on the school to cleanse player lists and registrations in addition to compliance interaction but overall a fairly frictionless tool that worked great for me.

Here is the link to the platform. I automatically log in so I am not sure what you would see if you have not established an account.
