Does anyone have one? I am really struggling right now. I am looking at our schedule and thinking we only have a shot at 2 of the remaining games. I'm typically optimistic, but right now, I'm seriously down about this program.

We are so close yet so far.

There is only a glimmer of hope because the big east is so terrible and Pugh is coming back.

That is it.

We are four years in and on an eight game losing streak to FBS opponents.

This sucks. Plain and simple.

Nope.

Nope. I think we've seen our one win this season.

We can beat anyone. We can also lose to anyone. I think we can still do 5-7. Which isn't good, but is what a lot of people were predicting anyway.

The consensus was 7-5:

Opponent Points Against Points For Prediction Actual
USC 37.2 17.3 Loss Loss
Minnesota 19.9 24.8 Win Loss
Northwestern 21.5 26.5 Win Loss
Stony Brook 13.9 37.3 Win Win
Cincinnati 22.8 22.5 Loss
Louisville 27.4 20.6 Loss
Missouri 28.5 20.3 Loss
USF 26.6 22.6 Loss
Pittsburgh 21.2 22.5 Win
Rutgers 14.8 23.5 Win
Temple 17.7 31.6 Win
UConn 16.9 26.6 Win

So, two of the consensus wins are in the books as losses. The updated consensus is now 5-7.

The combined records of the teams that beat us is 11-1 and we lost by 1 pt, 20 pts, 7 pts.

Right they beat the likes of South Dakota , Syracuse, New Hampshire , Syracuse, Western Michigan and oh yea Syracuse.

Very little to cling on to there.

The combined records of the teams that beat us is 11-1 and we lost by 1 pt, 20 pts, 7 pts. Hardly embarrassing.

Cmon man! MN beat UNLV, New Hampshire, Western Michigan and us. Northwestern beat us, Vandy, BC and South Dakota. USC beat Hawaii, us and Cal.

This is mediocre stuff at best. We are 1-3 and beat ourselves in 2 of the three losses. I am just glad we don't play Colgate.

Did you watch the game last night? That was the definition of embarrassing and disgraceful!

The teams left on our schedule all suck. We have the talent to go 5-3 no problem. Coaches need to earn their pay though. Right now I have zero faith in them.

There are a few glimmers of hope:

- We get one of our best players back, which will knock one of our worst to the bench
- This isn't the SEC, there are no games on our schedule where we don't have a chance to win or pull-off an upset
- It's now absolutely evident what works and doesn't work for us on O, the staff just needs to execute.

But damn, that loss last night sucked and the light at the end of the tunnel seems a whole lot dimmer than it did before kick-off last night.

Last year after crushing WVU on National TV Syracuse was 5-2 on the season and had won 13 of its last 20 games including a bowl game. Over that time SU beat WVU twice, Rutgers, Cincinnati, USF, Wake Forest and Kansas St. While this list may not contain the likes of Alabama, Florida or Oklahoma it certainly showed me that Marrone could field a team that could compete with and beat teams from FBS conferences. That has to count for something. As a matter of fact, I would venture to guess one would need to go back to the early 2000's to find a time when SU had one at least 13 of 20 games.

I am extremely frustrated like everyone else but I do see positive things. SU has moved the ball against everyone they have played. Take away three plays from the Northwestern game (interception return for a TD, fumble return for a TD and a punt return for a TD) and Syracuse wins that game by at least two scores. Last night in a game where Minnesota came out firing on all cylinders in front of a rabid home crowd SU failed to score on a first and goal inside the 5 yard line and fumbled on another drive at the Minny 20 yard line. Throw in a few more drives where SU got inside the Minny 40 and did not score any points and I get the feeling SU left at least 13 points on the field in a game they ultimatelty lost by 7. The defense bent but never broke, I was actually pleased that they only gave up 17 given the amount of time they were on the field.

Hey, Pittsburgh lost to Youngstown State, Connecticut lost to Western Michigan and USF lost to Ball State.

If Syracuse can accomplish the following two things:

1. Play competent (not spectacular) special teams
2. Eliminate the turnovers that cost them against both NW and Minny

Why can't they beat anyone left on their schedule?

Because none of that stuff will happen. And, Hackett will still be there making dumb a$$ calls, and teams with strong offensive lines will pound it down SU's throat, etc.

Short-term reason for hope - We've got two weeks to get completely healthy and prepare for this next game.
Two weeks for our coaches to get an effective game plan together.

Besides, every dog has his day.

Two weeks for our coaches to get an effective game plan together.

This is what I don't like -- I think we have our core competencies and when our staff over-plans for a game we tend to get away from them. When we do that, we play our worst ball.

The o played seemingly as bad as possible, and still ran up 350 yards. in the Robinson years, we couldnt sniff 350 yards of offense, and it was a fluke during the early marrone years.

Pugh is back.

Specials sorted out punt and kick off coverages.

Long term, only losing four real impact players -Lemon, Sales, Thomas and Nassib. Lemon and Sales seem very replaceable (West, Kobenah, Funderburk, [Broyld]).

I believe the team will play better as well. There is a lot to like it has been very disappointing to lose games like this but there I'm seeing some things we haven't had in years, many years that this team is doing...mostly good. If they can recruit for 2013 and get kids that can play and possibly start, they will continue to get better. They HAVE to reduce the wth moments and that includes the staff as well.

Here are the current Sagarin rankings of the teams left on the schedule:

Pitt 68
@RU 48
UConn 64
@USF 66
@Cincy 36
Louisville 43
@Mizzou 24
@Temple 72

We need to win three of the next four. Not really a daunting task. Then we need to steal one of the three after that. Which will be difficult but possible. Finally we need to knock off Temple which isn't too hard. Still can get to a Bowl. No excuses.

As others have said, we can beat anyone left on the schedule and we could also lose to anyone left on the schedule. If we don't fix the constant mistakes, I'd lean towards the latter. DM also better have a come to Jesus with Hackett about play calling inside the 10.

There is no reason for hope... Not until this team and coaching staff gives us a reason to have hope...

If we could beat anyone, we would have beaten someone (sorry FCS does not count)... The only beating we're good at right now is beating ourselves.

We are very capable at losing winnable games.

That's a cancer that solidifies a culture of losing... usually followed by the staff losing the team and the players when they see no hope either...

It happened to Grob and Marrone is inching ever so closely to the same cliff...

I like Doug yet his coaching remains an enigma and quite simply, he is failing.

We have depth, our team speed and athleticism is improved and we are in year 4... We should all expect better.

I hope he really does turn it around, but my patience is wearing thin to be sure.
