A Tale of Two Sidibes

Man, I hope not. So tired of it.

Maybe just recruit a center who can actually play offense? And when you do, try passing them the ball a little bit?

I mean I am not opposed against teams that don't have a ton of size. It worked a decent amount against WVU in the tournament, but it should be used in a limited fashion. Not your main lineup.

Well we will have a Cole, Benny, and Jimmy(most likely). Want to wager that one of them will end up playing center next year at least 10mpg?
Those minutes will be at the expense of FA, not Sidibe or Edwards, and only if he’s “not ready.”

It’s not like JB wanted to play Dolezaj at center last year. He didn’t have a choice.

Bees thats my point . 5 years taking up a roster spot
Why does that matter? We rarely fill all our scholarship spots, and frankly I agree with JB on that. 11-12 guys is fine.

I think that's debatable. Saying JAB didn't have a choice is taking him at his word that Jesse "wasn't ready" which flies in the face of what we saw on the court when Jesse played (starting with the Miami game). None of us are able to speak to what happens in practice, but I find it hard to believe Jesse couldn't give them 12 MPG to even spell Marek. It's not like Jesse just magically became someone different that last 6, or so, games.

I disagree that he had a choice in 2019.

So you don't think one of the forwards will end up playing center next year?

The board is going to flip sht if Edwards ends up being the odd man out. There's concern amongst fans regarding JB's management of this position next year and I think it's legitimate. JB has gone from defense first at the 5 to offense first at the 5 whenever he can since Lydon was a freshman.

Since Sidibe got hurt, yeah. But he probably had a choice to play him there 40 minutes a game for most of the year.

Im amazed that somebody above actually wants us to be closer to “not having that choice” again. Who the heck would want to run off an actual center that has shown to be competent when healthy?

I want Sidibe, Edwards, and Frank and some combination of those 3 playing 40 minutes a game at center.

Agreed, certain matchups.

Like back in the day, we would put Warrick at center occasionally - when the matchup worked.

I hate when it’s like default mode though. Those games where going in you just know we’re going to get destroyed in the paint and probably lose by double digits because of it. The worst.

I think Junior plays behind Sidibe/Edwards if FA can’t hack it or leaves.

The other option when Lydon was a freshman was Coleman.

Chukwu?

JB only plays two
Still needs 3. You can't bank on Sidibe at this point. Jim can tell us it was an infection and it won't impact him moving forward, but he has 2 significant knee injuries in a short period of time.

So you’re opposed to depth? FA may not even be here
Players hit the road when they don't get time on the court . No one wants to sit. The third guy will never sniff the court. Sid had his time. Lets see what the young guys have. If he is ready to go , why not go make money?

Because you’re only looking at games when Edwards played well.

Ehhh Edwards played well against Miami and basically didn’t see the court again for a month. He got zero time in any of our 3 losses during that period. He only played against Georgia Texh and played well because Marek fouled out in 15 min.

Honestly, the center position is the least of my concerns next season. I think Sid will finally be healthy (and produce like he did towards the end of his Junior year) and that Edwards is gonna have a good season like we all expect. We’ll see but I agree with Tom that center could be a strength. What I’m concerned about is the PG position and the lack of athleticism at the PF spot (assuming Benny is the SF) and the guard positions. Cole and Jimmy are both slow afoot and we all know about Buddy and Joe’s struggles with lateral quickness at the top of the zone. As for PG, I’ve always felt Girard was a third guard, a microwave type 6th or 7th man off the bench. There are some really good PGs out there that we could go after.

I think we need to hope Girard plays like he did the last 5 or 6 games. Not many have said it, but he was a key player for us down the stretch. He is not Kadary, but there's a path for him to be successful.

And I think JB thinks with those 3 on the court that Benny is going to have a lot of room to work with.

You just proved my point. You’re ignoring the games when he didn’t play well. He showed glimpses in the Miami game, was given opportunities afterward, and didn’t capitalize.

He played 3 games and had 1, 2 and 2 minutes in wins. We disagree on what is an opportunity if you believe that.
