But, TV money may trump. The GTAA projects it will receive $22.2 million from the ACC in the 2015 fiscal year. (That’s $5.5 million more than was previously projected. The increase is due in part to the league signing its grant of rights, which was worth about $1.1 million per school from ESPN.) That is largely ESPN cash. That number would increase if plans for an ACC network are realized.

Lol, WVU Jihadists be damned the ACC is going to making 22.2 million per school.

Do we and add Navy and go to 16? We would pick up the armed service network , which is global. That would allow Notre Dame to keep their long time relationship and the southerners are very strong on military tradition.

I don't see the conference going to 16 unless ND commits and that won't be for another 10 years. All this is telling me is that the ACC network is something that could happen if the schools commit to ESPN with 9 conference games a season as the bargain. I heard on the Georgia Tech board that the ACC is looking for 2016 as a launch point for the ACC Network.

I hope not.

Too big.

The Military Network (AFRTS) is not commercialized. I'm not even sure if they pay ESPN, etc...for the broadcast rights for any used content. It is mainly for the military and dependants located overseas.

My preference to get to 16 is to grab either Nova, Georgetown or SJU as #16.

Great find Alsacs! You are the scoop master.

As discussed, oh, about a billion times on this board and others, Navy will never, ever, ever, be in the ACC.

That title belongs to Arbitragels, but I follow the right people on twitter for this news. Good ACC follows are Laura Keeley from Duke,Ken Sugiura from Georgia Tech and David Teel from Virginia/Virginia Tech they are among the best ACC writers

i like 9 games.

lets make everyone drop the 1aa team.

play 2 bcs and 1 maac/aac team.

or go to 13 games and let the 13th be 1aa.

They should outlaw 1AAs altogether. You can play them, but you get zero bowl credit for it.

FSU, Clemson, GT do not want the 9 games because of their SEC in state rivalry commitment. But at the end of the day, all of the conferences are going to be 9 game schedules, so there isn't much they can do to escape it. Won't be the same teams on the ACC schedule each year, so there is some variety at least.

As the P5 conferences all create their own networks, it is inevitable that they go to 9 game conference schedules for football.

Assuming this happens, with the ND 5 game OOC also in place, if you want to schedule an ACC school out of conference in future years, you are going to have a hard time. ACC schools will have 8 OOC games or so to schedule every 3 years. Assuming ACC schools will always play one 1 D1AA school to get an extra home game, the number of chances to play an ACC school every 3 years drops to 5. You have to expect every ACC school will play at least one P5 school OOC each year (half or so have their SEC rival blocked in each year to the end of time) and it becomes clear there is almost no room to play non P5 schools in the future.

The one thing that will help is that the B1G has banned its schools from playing FCS schools in future years, which gives an ACK or MAC school a chance to play Rutgers and Maryland on a regular basis. I tihnk RU is already all over this, trying to schedule UConn each season in their latest desperate gambit to get bowl eligible in future years.

Interesting that the article mentions Gross as one of the initiators of the 9 game proposal.

In December, the Associated Press reported that Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross sent letters to his colleagues suggesting a nine-game schedule in part so schools in smaller markets (like Syracuse) can make more visits to schools in bigger markets like Boston College, Tech and Miami. He also suggested being more “creative” with the league’s permanent cross-division partners, like Tech and Clemson. Currently, cross-division teams face each other twice in a 12-year cycle.

We don't need another non-football team in the ACC. Thats what screwed up the Big East was having Basketball only schools. You must play all sports to be in the conference.

We are already violating that edict (see --->ND)

If we want to go to 16 for hoops adding one of the Catholic schools would help with TV and recruiting in DC, Philly or NYC. I'm not so sure one of them would leave though. I figure Nova would be a solid add.

I think Nova would be a solid add. Brings the Philly market into play as well.

14 + ND is fine for now. We should go to 16 if and only if ND goes all in. And then 16 should be (probably) Cinci. Fairly major metro area, decent academics, decent athletics. No one else (excluding P5 conferences natch) brings anything to the table (I'm looking at you, UConn).

A big concern with a BB-only is, what happens if after they are added, ND decides to go all in? Is 15 FB workable? If not and the league goes to 16, is 17 workable for BB? I have my doubts.

If ND goes all in then you have to go to a 16/18 model.

Probably add either Cincy or UConn and add either GTown or SJU

Yes I'm aware of the league getting bloated...but it sure helps fill out the Network.

The B1G drove a phallanx (Bulge) through the ACC and the league needs to regain some relevance in the BOS-WASH

What screwed up the Big East was having an equal number of football schools and basketball schools, so neither side had a voting consensus.

With 14 full time members on the same side of the table, having 2 non-football members shouldn't be a problem.

Maryland might reconsider , their alumni are dispirited and disengaged. Could happen.
