An article in the N.Y. Post today said that Pitino is in favor of a mega basketball conference combining the ACC and Big East. He said he agrees with Coach K who recommends the super basketball conference. Pitino feels both conferences would benefit greatly with the expansion. I’m surprised no one here has mentioned the article.

That would be amazing, but why couldn’t it have worked 12 years ago? That’s what makes me think that it’s not a realistic idea.

29 teams in this super conference. That would be a scheduling nightmare. What's better for Cuse? Having Duke, UNC and Virginia come to the Dome or Yukon, Villanova and Marquette? You would have to have to take the 11 teams in the BE and add Cuse, Pitt, BC and one or two more to make it 14 vs 15 in separate divisions.

Easy: UConn, Nova and Marquette. Would be perfect cause would still have ACC football affiliation and money but also have Big East basketball (and MSG). Needless to say, I miss the Big East.

Uh Marquette is a CUSA school to me I know we saw them in the tournament a couple of times but they're the last program I think of when I think Big East sort of like USF.

Conferences are too big. We easily could have made the playoffs this year if SMU and the CA schools weren't added as Miami was always gonna be on the schedule and the old format was done.

Scheduling would be figured out and every cuse fan would love this.

The conference tournament would be absolutely fantastic.

Put us in a regional division with some old "friends" that does the OBE justice and I'm in.

Play 10 conference games, and the last month of the season is the ACC/BE Tournament.

Since the powers that be will never agree on a site (MSG or Greensboro), this is a non-starter.

At a time when college sports is being driven 100% by football, and our eventual fate is tied directly to being in a relevant conference in football - tying ourselves to a basket-only conference seems incredibly stupid. I totally get why basketball focused folks (like Coach K) might think this is a spectacular idea - but it’s not.

EDIT: One positive is we would not need to worry about North Carolina dictating schedules, because they would be out of this conference faster than the ink was dry. Any ACC school with any hopes of future relevancy and ability to get the hell out would bail.

Marquette is Big East because they are Jesuit.

The big east failed the first time for the obvious reason of Football schools having no choice but to go elsewhere.

Realigning with a bunch of parochial basketball-only schools makes zero sense in this day and age, as much as nostalgia may drive some to think it's possible. I wish it could work, but am a realist.

Ricky doesn't care about football and wants his job to be top tier again. I get it.

Perfect? Of course not. Fun thoughts though

Play each team in your division twice (14) plus 3 home from the other divisions and 3 away as well 20 conf games. Rotate yearly (maybe less division games and more cross conference)

Tournament can be top 4 from each conference

Rotating conf championship sites (MSG, Chicago, NC)

The Catholic schools caused the breakup of the Big East. Had they not vetoed the ESPN contract offer, ESPN might not have caused the football teams to leave.
