ACC Games for Feb 11

Virginia gets out rebounded 39-23, shoots 28% from 3 (4-14) and 40% from the FT line (9-22) and still wins! Duke and this entire league is something else this year for sure…..might be one of the more crazier ACC tournaments
Dukes 22 turnovers offset all the poor numbers for Virginia. Duke has 43 turnovers in their last two games.

A UVA win would give Duke a lock for tourney

They definitely got it wrong and if Coach K was there that ending never happens. I hate Duke but they got screwed and worse the refs knew it.

Can they fix our brand? I’ll even accept them fixing Duke’s and thrown in Louisville’s too, as long as they fix ours.

SU, Duke, Louisville, and UNC should be clashing for league titles every year. That is the dream I was sold.
I hear you, but that was never a reality. In the BE, we were a flagship school, but it was still egalitarian. Multiple schools had a chance and, indeed, multiple schools had their run over time.

The ACC is a two team league. Always has been. The emergence of UVA has shifted that somewhat, but the premise still stands.

In all seriousness, the move to the ACC has really damaged the BB program (as has many other things). In the BE days, if you wanted to play for the premier BE programs, your choices were SU, UConn, maybe Gtown, Nova, etc. In the ACC, the choices are Duke & Carolina. Period. SU wasn’t a founder of this league. SU has never won this league. We are, realistically at best, relegated to 3-4th place every year (in good times, with the occasional run for 1st), but, more recently and sadly, looking more like a 7th-9th place team. The point is, we will never be the number one or flagship brand in the ACC like we could obtain in the BE. And, thus, will never actually really compete with Duke/UNC.

I am with you. The dream is we form a super conference with us near the top. I’m just not sure that was ever going to happen moving into the ACC neighborhood.

The only problem with that statement is that the ball wasn't "in flight". Beekman had blocked it and it was on its way away from the basket.

so if i shoot the ball and it gets blocked and a different player tackles me its no longer a foul? direction of the ball doesnt matter as long as its still above the rim I dont think.

But hey we had a goal tending call on a ball that was coming up several ft short the other night so what do i know. And we had a goal tending on a pass as well.

You're right. I now believe the ball has to hit the floor before being considered not in flight.

He wasn’t tackled though. Both players had ball. Frankly they ended up getting the call somewhat right, but since it’s Duke everyone is making this a bigger deal than it should be.

I dont have a problem with calling a no foul. But to call a foul and then change it after the fact to a non shooting foul and saying contact happened after the clock ran out is pretty bogus. Felt like they reviewed it and wished they had called no foul and made up a way to get there,

I thought if anything the foul was with the body down low, the one guy was clean , but didnt think the other contact was completely clean.. Had they had no call at all I would have taken it.

But really there is 1 sec left or whatever.. What is the Virginia kid doing over playing that and letting him roll to the basket anyway.

How would you compare the block Christmas had on Hood compared to last night’s foul? The only difference was it was not as the clock ran out.

Give coaches a challenge. In real-time it looked like a foul. The on court error ultimately swung the game.

Wow. Ohio State scored 14 points total in the first half.
1st bad season for Holtmann in 10 years. But some people think every good coach wins 22+ games every year and never have a bad season.

Exactly. They called a foul. The correctness of that is irrelevant. If this happened to Su there would be outrage.

Thought it was a clean block as well. Didn’t see any foul.
Agreed. They probably went to the monitor and saw there was no foul up top to time with the clock. Then you look at the body and the very incidental contact. They got it right for perhaps the wrong reason.

The debate over the call aside-

-Duke still probably owes ACC foes 30 plus other late game calls that went their way and shouldn't have

- Scheyer is putting one of the most talented on paper classes on the floor every night but couldn't get it done after regular time. Do a better job coaching and take your lumps.
