"Michigan St, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky". What team is different than the others?

Its time to drop Michigan St from the annual 4 team matches. I know they need teams with 4 different conferences, so its either a team from the B10, BE, or other league. Don't know who makes sense from the B10 - they have a lot of "very solid" but not elite programs. To me the best fit would be Gonzaga or UConn. Gonzaga would be the most intriguing to me as a fan, but I suppose for eyeballs it wouldn't be.

So that brings it down to UConn as the logical replacement... so on second thought let's keep Michigan St!

Isn't the Champions Classic an ESPN thing? Uconn (fox) would be a no-go then.

Michigan St (Big 10) is not affiliated with ESPN either from what I understand. B10 is Fox, CBS, NBC.

I always thought it was conference games that were affiliated to networks. But not necessarily out of conference games especially power vs power - I stand to be corrected on that point though.

I was going to say that Michigan State was grandfathered in to the Champions Classic, but now that I think about it, jncuse is right. A number of multi-team events air on ESPN without much regard as to whether the participating teams have contracts to play their home games on other networks.

Prime example: Connecticut and Michigan State are playing in this month's Maui Invitational, and all the games (PDF bracket) are on the ESPN channels.

I think you're right; only conference games are affiliated. My bad.
