ACC News

I like the champions league idea but not the execution. I also like that Va Tech fan presumes his team would be in it since even in his own example Cinci would be ahead of tech. Tech and Miami would both be in Europa.

Here's how the College football champions league would look. The final number would be 20 not 40. With 10 conferences plus independents the independents need to join a league. SEC would get 4 spots; ACC, BEVO, B1G, and PAC 3 spots; other 4 conferences would be single bid. 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, 20 rated teams in pod A 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15, 18, 19 in pod B. Play your 9 pod games then the top 2 teams from each move on to play 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 then winner vs winner for the title. You'd have a 10 team "europa" league running behind them the winner of which get an auto spot in the champions league the next year. If europa winner is from a multibid conference that would take one of their spots. Bottom 4 champions league would go into a 8 team playoff vs 2-5 in the lower league. 6-10 in the lower league get booted for 5 new teams. The "europa" league would be single bid from each conference for their next best team SEC 5, ACC 4, MW 2, etc.

Too many teams.
The Euro tournaments run concurrently with their national league (regular conference) games as well as their national trophy tournaments.

The way that college football is headed, assuming an 8-team playoff in 6 years (that's after one cycle of the current 4-team playoff), you'd have your 8-team Champions League following the regular season. The conferences with the best teams will get multiple bids.

This 8-team playoff and the 68-team hoops tournament make Champions League-like competitions in US (college) sports redundant.

Fun to think about if they could play 20+ games a year, but redundant... unless they were to drop the end-of-season playoff, which is silly since many of the players that got the team into this competition would be playing on Sundays.
