ACC revenue edges down slightly to $373 million

The $403 million it earned the previous year included a $31 million exit fee payment from Maryland, and a payout from its primary bowl partner, the Capital One Orange Bowl. In 2015-16, the Orange Bowl hosted the College Football Playoff semifinals, so the payout from that game did not belong to the ACC.

Despite the decrease in 2015-16, the ACC received more revenue from its television payout, up $9 million to $226 million. It also received $85.9 million in bowl payouts, and $20.6 million from the NCAA basketball tournament (also an increase).

The 14 full-time member schools received an average of $26.3 million. Notre Dame, a member in all sports but football, received $4.25 million. Clemson led the way among all ACC schools, receiving $27.9 million.

So ND gets 15mil from NBC, 4.25 from ACC. Where do the rest of their monies in tv come from?

In our current 2016-2017 year, the $27 million (previous number seen) for the Orange Bowl went to the ACC as the OB was NOT part of the CFP so that will boost revenue - in 2015-2016 we didn't get OB $$ as the OB was part of the CFP. The BiG was in the OB this year so they get OB $$ too but the SEC didn't, and the ACC did get Citrus Bowl $$$ as the ACC got a spot in the Citrus Bowl. There is also the "channel clause" $$$ which is $3 million per school per year for 2017 and 2018 too. We get that every year the ACC channel is not on the air - the digital ACC Extra does not change that. The ACC also has gotten the $6 million per year for the CFP entrant each of the past 3 years - the amount is the same even if, as Clemson did, the team plays in two games.

As far as the bowl game arrangements: ACC schools are a lock for the Orange Bowl*, Sun Bowl, Belk Bowl, Russell Athletic Bowl, Military Bowl, Pinstripe Bowl, Independence Bowl, Quick Lane Bowl, and St. Petersburg Bowl. Three others are optional: ACC/Big 10 vs. SEC in Music City Bowl, Tax Slayer Bowl, and Citrus Bowl. The Peach Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and Fiesta Bowl are not tied into any conference in the years in which they are not part of the CFP. It is possible for ACC teams to appear in them.

College Football Bowl Schedule

*If Orange Bowl is part of CFP, the teams in it are picked by the CFP Committee. That happened in 2015-2016 but Clemson went - the payout was $6 million rather than $27 million.

I was just wondering if they make more than the 26mil.

Good question. If they make a bowl they keep the revenue all to themselves but if it is a smaller paying bowl that is a lot less than they would get sharing bowl revenue with the other ACC schools
