...it is hard not to draw the conclusion that we are, unhappily, in the bottom half of the ACC with MD, NC, NC State, Pitt, BC and Virginia. We are dead last in scoring offense and ninth in scoring defense vs conference opponents. We may be in the bottom third.

The good news is that all of our remaining games except FSU are with teams on our level.

Wake Forest – This is a good offensive team. WR Campanaro is the leading receiver in the ACC and Tanner Price is the 4th leading passer. They also seem to be improving on defense. We will have a tough game in the Dome. Only injuries and Nassib/Lemon heroics stopped them a couple of years ago. This game is no longer one to put easily in our win column.

Maryland – This is the one team that I think has been overrated all year and is now being exposed as a poor one. I think this is a winnable game but it is an away game and the Terps have a bye week this week and will be prepared for us. They have 5 wins and only need to beat us to qualify for a bowl. Dangerous game.

Pittsburgh – The Panthers are underachieving again having lost to Navy and now stand at 4-3. They seem as erratic as we do. We will learn a lot when they face Ga Tech this week. I still think we can beat them in the dome but no game is safe

Boston College – It is quite possible that both teams will need this game to qualify for a bowl. I really don’t know what to make of BC (or us) so I think this game is a toss-up as well.

We have to win three of these games and while doable it will be no cakewalk.

If we have any more blowouts Shafer will have to take a real critical eye to teh staff and make appropriate changes. Perhaps even if we get to a bowl changes will be wise.

Marylandand Wake have played well lately, Wake had Miami on the ropes and Maryland played Clemson tough ... Gave them fits in the first half. I think we'll be hard pressed to win either game.

In their last four games Maryland has lost tp FSU 63-0, Wake 34-10, Clemson 40-27. They beat a bad VA team 27-26. That is not my definition of playing well.

I think we're in the bottom 4th. We're only going to move up by winning games we shouldnt.

I think UVA and NCState (+/- BC) at our level of incompetence right now.

You realize we are a field goal favorite right? This team lost to UL Monroe. They beat a horrible NC ST team and a Miami team looking ahead to their biggest game in the past century next week. This is a game we should win and will have to if we want to be taken seriously

I think there are more teams than that in that bottom 4th.
There is only one dominant team in the ACC right now and that is FSU.
Then you have Clemson and Miami but I think the U is someone suspect after almost losing to both Wake and Carolina.
Next up GT and VT. Say what you will about VT but they did beat GT.

Then there is the rest of the conference..all who could probably beat each other depending on the day and how their luck is running.
Oh and Duke is only bowl eligible because of scheduling really weak out of conference teams. LouC must have done the scheduling for them.

You may be right, but I think we dropped off the "we want to be taken seriously" bandwagon after the GT blowout. We can hop back on if we can manage 3 more W's. Fingers crossed...

One of the most important things to do is stay realistic, we are not an elite program, and miles away from being elite. Managing ourselves to bowl wins and establishing solid recruiting classes hopefully can turn the rope. It was just a few years ago Minnesota was struggling and now they are winning some games in the B1G 10.

Miami also had a lot going on off the field with ncaa finally ruling

NC State played Clemson tough too at home and that didn't really translate to anything.

I think people would be better served looking at how we match up against teams instead of how our opponents have fared against teams we've played. Outside of FSU, pretty much every ACC team lost or looked beatable vs teams that, on paper, they shouldn't have.

If anything, The lenient NCAA ruling should have given the Canes a lift.
IMO the Canes were looking past Wake and anticipating their game against Fla St.

ACC Conference road wins against the teams we need to beat..

Wake - zero
Mary - zero
BC - Zero
NC State - zero

SU - ONE...

That makes me feel better!

I'm pretty sure that we have the potential to have a very good running game if utilized properly, but I can't get real confident about our chances against anybody until we start getting even mediocre QB play. With below average QB production a lot of teams have trouble winning.

I agree that we should win, I always think we should win. My heArt and my head are telling me different things about the end of this season.

I agree ! With the current play of the QB position even playing Virginia would be a challenge . Having watched parts of the wake game duke game etc most of Saturday I can see us losing them all if our QB play does not get considerably better not just all of the WR also. That doesn't mean I will not root like hell for the Orange but let's not kid ourselves this is not going to be a walk in the park. The game planning needs a lot of improvement also ! If he has been out coached as he claims after the losses he has got to do something about it now not next year or this year will be lost. Try something different now !! There my rant is over !! BACK TO ROOTING AND GO ORANGE !!!
