Agreed. Very composed kid, seems like a leader. Brains, confidence and leadership skills can go a long way in college.
I have to admit, I was half expecting the kid to be somewhat of a knucklehead after getting that tattoo on his arm.
Doesn't seem that way at all.
It's nice to hear a guy make a mistake (and only a minor one at that) and then correct it, as opposed to a guy admit to making a mistake, claim he's going to change, only to repeat or make similar mistakes over and over.I think he learned from his summer comments and it's good to see a QB who is confident without bring a pompous ass. Seems motivated and the team can certainly use more guys like that.
Not the QB, and not acting like that in the media. We need guys who let the scoreboard do the talking. We need a cocky smarta$$.

Are you referring to the actual interview? Did you watch it?
He is cocky. But also humble, smart, etc. I don't mind the moxie.

I hate going back to this well, but...He made a big impact as a recruit, given how involved he was trying to convince others to join him at SU. Kid just seems like a leader.
And although it was only one game, he looks like he's going to make an impact on the field, too.

Poor man's Russell Wilson.
Agree - but I'm also thinking as much about his seeming command of the locker room and his teammates. You always hear about Russell Wilson walking into any locker room and just completely owning it. I'm getting the impression that AJ has that same sort of immediate respect, based on his personality and natural charisma. You might be right. Go back and check out Long's high school statistics from his junior year. He was supposedly playing in a highly competitive HS league in Tennessee. Gaudy. And they suggest that the kid can really pass the ball.
I've been excited about Long ever since we landed his commitment. I think many [most?] were swept up in the euphoria of landing a kid like Edouard, but Long's passing stats always stood out to me.
I know, I know--HS accomplishments don't always translate. But check out those stats. Love the TD / INT ratio. Kid can pass.

couldn't agree more. He's more Doug Flutie it's looking like than say Troy Nunes is what I'm thinking as to his potential. Your reaction was my reaction when I saw that interview (which I'm too lazy to write again so here it is.....):on Syracuse.com is very impressive.
Watch it.
The kid is obviously very smart - very savvy.
Hard to believe he is only nineteen years of age.
He has reinvigorated my feelings for Syracuse University Football.
AJ Long just schooled George McDonald on how to be poised in a media environment.
On a somewhat similar level, I am more impressed with Lester each time I listen to one of his interviews since being named OC. He just seems to have this air about him - calm, humble yet confident, thoughtful, and always with a smile. I don't think he will have a problem with responding under pressure.
But, I am nowhere near ready to say he is the answer; it's more that I really like what he has to say and how he presents himself. Only time and performance on the field will tell us what we have.
