That is complete nonsense. The circumstances are hardly similar.AJ Long just schooled George McDonald on how to be poised in a media environment.

I thought we were talking about an interview? Now, you want to change the subject?Like the circumstances when McDonald would throw random and inexplicable hissy fits on Twitter?
That is how I read it also. You can't understate the depth of the bad decisions McDonald has made on Twitter. BOOM!I figured "poised in a media environment" was pretty broad.
And I never miss the chance to point how terrible at Twitter McDonald is.

Cmon. I'm not overly sympathetic to McDonald - but a 19 year old kid after his first successful start is 1000x more positive than facing the media after a demotion.
It was a bad choice on his part, and AJ seems to have tons more leadership and poise - but the circumstances were entirely different.

The interview that McDonald conducted in which he used profanity multiple times was before the demotion.
And was/is largely overblown.
AJ had not just been fired/demoted. I think you can understand the difference.Did the interview that McDonald spouted off like a drunken sailor take place in a difficult environment?
I grade on a bell curve given a 19-year old being thrown out there on short notice versus someone twice his age that 1) thinks dropping multiple bombs in a puff piece is cool, 2) mislead/lied reporters on whether he was told in person or over phone, and 3) with a few days between news and media interview said he wish he never came and stayed at Arkansas.
So yeah, not similar situations. But still the dead-same observation.
What did George McDonald ever do to you that you feel you have to dump on him so much? The man just had his career /life torn apart - is it not within you to cut him some slack? OC's normally do not get fired in mid-season in CFB so yes, the guy did get blindsided. And 15 games is not a lot to establish a brand new offense. So yes, he had a right to be disappointed and yes, nobody in their right mind would have come to SU from Arkansas if they though they would only have 15 games and one recruiting class to establish themselves.
George McDonald was one of us, he tried his best. We as a fan base would be a lot more classy if we got off the guys back.
BTW your last sentence really makes no sense. If you just don't like the guy just say so.
Fine, that is your opinion, but you did not need to stretch AJ's interview situation to take shots at the guy. AJ's interviews had nothing in common with GM's and it was simply mean spirited to make that ham-handed comparison. Simply not necessary.I don't mind the guy. Really.
But McDonald did not do well in front of the press when he had ample opportunity to have composure. The multiple apologies and corrections are wincing. Football is a business as he knows ...just like he left Arkansas after three weeks for a great promotion so to come the crashes. It happens.mutsnwhat he signed up for. And if he wants to have as successful a career as possible, he's got to handle business realities in a more professional manner. Period.

SUFan44 said:His brilliant interactions with the print media over the last two years (and more specifically 2-3 weeks), as well his social media antics, are more than enough to rest my case. But if you'd like to continue to believe whatever it is that you believe, go for it.
Way, way overblown. In the beginning, Cohen was honestly being a tool and deserved to be blacklisted by McDonald and everyone else. I'm not defending his last interview. The use of salty language in the puff piece must have offended your delicate sensibilities. As I've said before, a journo would have edited his comments out, but they need clicks so. Social media antics may be the most overblown of all. I follow the guy. It's mostly inspirational quotes and bible verses. He defended his players from Cohen. If he was guilty of anything it was being a touch too sensitive to criticism.
If we were winning you and everyone else wouldn't have cared what he said in the media anyways.
But if you like chasing people with pitchforks after they've "paid for their crimes" be my guest. Will say more about your character than his.
This response is a bit overblown also, IMO. It doesn't matter if most of McD's comments are inspirational quotes and Bible verses, the fact is that he is (well, was) one of the 3 faces of the program. And he did not handle himself in the manner he should have, being in that position - either with the print/electronic media or on social media. You have the 'I never would have come here' type of comments, the needless Twitter wars, etc. He seems like a nice guy, I hope he does well wherever he goes. But he needs a filter or governor when he's in the public eye, that he currently does not have.Way, way overblown. GotchaAgreed. Was largely responding to the level of snark in the posters response to me.
