AJ Long medically disqualified due to multiple concussions..transferring

New to this board and have a couple connections within the program, don't want to publicly say their names for many reasons but I have been friends with them for a while. As far as AJ goes don't want to go into to much detail but the team won't be missing much. Good kid for the most part he's just in the wrong situation. As far as Clark goes, in my opinion coaches made the right decision based on what I have heard, granted not much is being allowed to be told about this situation.
Clark?

I hope dad isn't the one pushing him back into football with concussion problems. Seems like a legit thing for a parent to do . I mean if AJ doesn't succeed how will his clothing line get off the ground.

I really wish that AJ would stay at SU and find some way into coaching. By the time he graduates, he could have a couple of years worth of work to put on his resume. The kid has some natural leadership qualities and I think he would be a good recruiter. He could make a good living as a coach, but not if his brain is mush.

Agree with this. I've gotten the impression this is a dad problem, not an AJ problem.
Does dad want him to transfer or does he, hes got a full ride for a great education right now.

Thanks for the tidbit. Interesting. It never did quite seem that AJ was all that well-liked amongst his teammates (see: Terrel Hunt article a year or so back). Sounded like most of it was related to his over confidence coming into the program. He seemed like a very enthusiastic kid but he just never did seem to fit in with the rest.

Disclaimer: This is totally my impression based upon news articles/social media presence etc and nothing I have heard from anyone directly. Could be way off.

But anyways, good luck to the kid. Hope he goes somewhere and has a great career (while staying healthy).

AJ said in multiple interviews that he and his family knew a week in advance about the possibility of a medical DQ. He said in those interviews that he called his parents and talked to them about it, and they all discussed what it means, etc.

This wasn't anything that came as a shock to the Longs.

I dont think anyone is claiming the longs were blindsided by the situation, just that HCSS didnt call after the fact. Why make this up after the fact?

Maybe he figured they would get a chance to talk last weekend face to face instead.

The only reason the comment is being made is to discredit the severity of AJ's health issue so that other schools don't get discouraged from pursuing him. Nothing more, nothing less.

Whether Shafer called his parents or not is about as irrelevant as it gets. Who cares. AJ is an adult last I checked.

FWIW, Madei Williams put up a pro team AJ and anti team Shafer Instagram post this afternoon. I commented #IStandWithShafer and Madei must have deleted it. I don't know what to make of some of these kids. They say they want to be treated like men and coached like the pros but then you hear that coach didn't have a good enough dialogue with mommy and/or daddy? Things I'll never understand.

I think it's safe to lock this thread now. As Crusty said in an earlier post nothing more to see here.

Except for those that don't see this tweet and will continue to assume it was HCSS's job to do so.

Yeah like the Nunes blog :(

Madei has proven he is not a good friend to our program. You are right, but in this case it was AJs dad taking a shot, I don't know how AJ felt about it. Anyway, nothing more to see here, what a joke this was.

He's probably butt hurt because we passed on Anthony Brown.
