It is a fair question. Illoa looks to protect to the left immediately, and never looks to his right. Someone missed their assignment. Would like this question asked this week, because Shrader is feeling his ribs on the right side… and that shouldn’t have happened.

Maybe, but I think it’s more difficult than seniority/experience.

I don’t remember how VT lined up before that play - if the guy who hit Shrader came on a delayed blitz.

Davis may also have thought it’s easier for Shrader to see and evade the A gap blitzer rather than the right side DE.

The problem on that catch was that the DB had his hand up in Alford’s face mask and shoved him away from the ball. Alford never even got a chance to get his legs down. One of the clearest examples of Defensive PI I have seen.€ it was an awful call and t he announcers glossed over it..

It was a delayed blitz. But wouldn't he know it's a deep shot and pass protection was needed? I'm not an old OL so I just don't know.

I think the delay helped Davis decide to support Serv inside so Airon could sell out to stop the outside rush.

Ilaoa doesn’t look to have his head on a swivel or recognized the delayed blitz too late.

Thankfully Shrader is made of adamantium

Yeah it’s a troubling pattern developing with him. Watched the replay, otherwise he played well but man o man he’s screwing up the easy stuff, OL 101, and it’s killing GS. There was no blitz either just a routine rush and DL over him.
