right now, what a complete show. WOW. Uconn and Rutgers can put as much lipstick on a pig as they want, but they are right now. Would really really suck, it's like a black cloud around everything. We really avoided a disasterous blow on this. Thank god

You summed it up beautifully. How depressing would it be knowing that your new conference brethren were going to be Memphis, Houston, SMU and that you were no longer going to have tie-ins to bowls of any significance?

As a college sports fan, besides 4/7/03 and a few other moments, I've never been as happy as I was when I was out in LA for the USC game last year and found out we had been thrown a life line.

Yep, remember sitting on my buddies couch in Malibu and seeing it come across the screen on ESPN, saying THANK GOD!!! Today was just another blow to the Big East as well

The Big East has literally become the old Conference USA. It's kind of amazing how that's worked out.

The people left in the conference can call Syracuse traitorous if they want, but you know they'd swap places with us in a heartbeat.

This is all working out the way I thought it might years ago when I thought there would eventually be an all-eastern seaboard conference. I still think, pardon me, that it needs rutgers or uconn to make that happen.

ND has a bigger fanbase in the NYC region than either Rutgers or UConn. I get what you're saying from a geography standpoint, but in terms of interest the ACC just functionally locked up the east coast by adding ND.

I feel really bad for UConnn...they didn't deserve this.

Well, them not committing to big-time college football until 10 years ago certainly contributed to them being in this spot. But I'm a CT resident, and once they did make that commitment they really have built a decent program, all things considered, so I am sympathetic to some extent. And it's not a total paper tiger like the dopes in Piscataway built.

UConn is like the family that was in line to see Mickey Mouse at Disney World, and just when they got to the front of the line, Mickey leaves.

The Big East was going to collapse regardless. I'm glad we got out before the roof started caving in.

You're probably right about that. Add either Rutgers or UConn now, though, and the BE can close up shop for good.

How about ND vs. SU at MSG? Think that'd draw in NYC?

Some one buy Dr. DG a beer for getting us out of that sinking ship. Better yet, the new facilities SU will be building with this extra money, name a building after him.

If this increases our odds at getting better recruits, I don't mind if UConn (and Rutgers) fell down a few steps for a bit. I'm sure most of their fans didn't complain much when they got the kids in the tri-state area and when they were winning games.

That's a big part of this for me. If we can take over recruiting the NY metro area (from UConn and Rutgers), this will all work out. But I'm still not convinced. Maybe it will take a few years.

One of the reasons BC left the BE was to escape the shadow of UConn. One of the reasons SU left the BE was to escape the shadow of Rutgers. I have to believe this is working out just the way they planned it.

Rutgers is scared of their own shadow - why would we be?

I was in Vegas that weekend for a wedding and down in the at mandalay for some breakfast drinks and saw the scroll on espn. Then I checked here.

As much fun as that weekend wast, that news was the highlight.

I don't know what the better news is. Staying at 15 teams, or the $50M exit fee.

Both have made my Wednesday. And greatly secured SU's future.
Well, getting ND to agree to the $50M is the biggest surprise to me...but also the key to the ACC allowing ND in as a partial member. It also indicates a level of commitment by ND to the ACC and to the possibility of ND entering as a football member in the not-so-distant future.
