ALL BS aside, can't imagine being stuck in the Big east

The thing is, as dark as those 5 years were, DG kept the ball moving in a lot of other ways. Positioning SU in NYC, on-going facilities upgrades and improving the non-revenue sports all played a part in making SU an attractive addition to the ACC, imo. Plus, continued excellence in basketball (thanks JB) and lacrosse and the crowds that follow those teams wherever they play, also played a major role. In my mind, DG was busy in a lot of other areas to improve the SU brand while waiting for football to catch up.
No doubt DG was instrumental. History and cache don't matter if you neglect them. DG acted like we were a player from the beginning, even in the dark days. All he had to do was show that he gave a shnitt to make us a BUY rating.

I feel really bad for UConnn...they didn't deserve this.

I live in Connecticut.

**k UCONN. I just hope it doesn't hurt the women's basketball program. (sarcasm)

There is no way Swarbrick and Swofford just cooked this up. Pitt and Notre Dame killed the Big East football contract, Pitt,Syracuse got a lifeboat out now here comes Notre Dame. Swarbrick gets better then half, the all in conference games and all other sports into the ACC. After a couple years of almost being a member, he has leverage to go all in, and here comes Uconn. All this done by Notre Dame to have a conference to their liking.

That's one hell of a conspiracy.

We left because it was more money and more security. If Rutgers and UConn were coming along too, we still leave with them.

But yes, no one is shedding a tear about being in a better place than them. They had invested $ in their program while sat on the sidelines and watched ours fall apart. Luckily the brand is strong enough, and the school is attractive enough, for us to have been given a lifeline.

I think you've got to give JB a lot of credit for keeping the school in the limelight. Football has a history, but our recent history probably didn't help?

There's something magical about a small private school in a place relegated by God to the worst bouts of snow and cold that becomes a significant player in academia, sports, politics, and media. I can understand southern California, Florida, Texas, and various other areas. However, upstate New York is a paradise to only those of us that have lived there. SU is blessed and I'm in awe of how well this has played out. Syracuse and SU in particular have won the lottery. Don't pinch me...I'd rather live in bliss, even if a dream. LGO!!!

One of the reasons BC left the BE was to escape the shadow of UConn. One of the reasons SU left the BE was to escape the shadow of Rutgers. I have to believe this is working out just the way they planned it.
OK, I missed this post in my original read-through of the thread, and only picked up on it after seeing a reply.

Rutgers does not cast a shadow. Schiano lied and bullshat his way into getting a bunch of impressionable yutes to make bad decisions, and "built" his "program" on deception, prevarication, manipulation, and fraud. Any rational observer with half a brain could see that the shed of cards would collapse.

I can't comprehend ever making a statement about the "shadow of Rutgers." Show some pride, and a sense of who you are.

ND has a bigger fanbase in the NYC region than either Rutgers or UConn. I get what you're saying from a geography standpoint, but in terms of interest the ACC just functionally locked up the east coast by adding ND.

Prior to the last couple years, I would have put Penn State on that list for football purposes for an all East Coast league... although academically they don't really fit well with the profile of teams in the ACC.

Lew Perkins started negociating for UConn to add football a decade before they did. He had to beat the legislature over the head about it for, literally, ten years.

Whatever the reason...they didn't.
