I would take Hak over Wesley. Wesley is the better shooter but didn't create his own shot. Hak could get his own shot out of the post. I can see wanting to go the other way though. His oldest player is his dad, who he never actually saw play. So let’s say this list starts as of 2003 for this purpose.
PG: Ennis
SG: Rautins (Senior year, he did so much)
SF: Melo
PF: Wesley Johnson (wanted Hak but couldn’t do it over Wesley)
C: Fab Melo Sophmore year
What do you disagree with? I’m picking my team based on offense and 2-3 zone defense.
I think Ennis was most complete PG. MCW was really good at top of zone. Best defender. But Ennis was always in control of the offense.
SG: I think you have Waters, Gerry, and Rautins. Waters had the most upside and could take over. But I loved Rautins defense and offensive package. Really hard to leave Gerry off this team. It could really go either way.
SF: Slam dunk Melo, no competition.
PF: Hak is probably my favorite. But Wesley Johnson was so dynamic. Can’t keep him off the court. He was lights out shooter and great weakside shot blocker.
C: Fab his sophomore year was unbelievable. I have never seen a defensive presence like him that year. Absolutely suffocating. I would probably go Arinze as the second best in this time frame with Rak being third.
I once did light up the gym there in a pick-up game. Dennis Duval never had a chance. Do nothing but skip classes for a semester and play hoops, and you too could end up like me.And he obviously never saw me light up Archbold Gym during intramural. Legendary stuff.
Bouie for defense. Tony for offense. For the guys that saw Bouie play, how did he compare to Seikaly?
Danny Schayes over Seikaly?1st- Sherm
Bing
Carmello
Coleman
Bouie
2nd- Pearl
Moten
Warrick
Hackett
Schayes
3rd- McNamara
Thompson
Grant
Owens
Seikaly
Honorable Mention: Dennis DuVal, Tyler Ennis, Louis Orr, Bil Smith, Jason Hart, Johnny Flynn, Michael Carter-Williams.
Rak is another player who was underwhelming until his senior year. He was very foul prone till then too.Sr Rak christmas is in that conversation
yep..like a long nba career for Schayes (18 seasons). I like Seikaly as well, just my opinion. Check out Danny's stats. Team player who sat behind Bouie for 3 yearsDanny Schayes over Seikaly?
i think you have to pair Sherm with Rony or drop Rony altogether. his thing was the alley oop.I’m only going to go with guys I saw, so no Bing or Bouie.
First Team:
PG – Sherman (although by the time I finish typing this I might change my mind to Pearl)
SG – Gerry – 2nd ball handler and big shot after big shot
SF – Melo – could do it all and did it all in his 1 year
PF – DC – I know some people put him as a center but from what I read in Boeheim’s book DC is adamant he is a PF and I don’t want to get him angry
C – Rony – great low post scorer and a very good rebounder
Second Team:
PG – Pearl – could easily switch him and Sherman.
SG – Moten – our all-time leading scorer has to be on there somewhere
SF – Billy – possibly the most skilled all around player in SU history
PF – Wallace – the ultimate SU one man gang and had as much swagger as anyone
C – AO – Low post scoring and immovable in the zone D
Junior year.Seikaly didn’t become a dominant force until his senior year.
C - Danny Schayes / Roosevelt Bouie/ Rony Seikaly
Forward - Derrick Coleman
Forward - Billy Owens
G - Dave Bing
G - Dwayne Washington / Sherman Douglas
*** Interesting, the website won't accept the letter "" standing alone, even as an abbreviation for Forward. This is a basketball forum isn't it?
Thanks for the reply and insights.i think you have to pair Sherm with Rony or drop Rony altogether. his thing was the alley oop.
so i like that. gerry gives you an outside threat and DC and Melo could destroy anybody. well done . as for second team pearl and moten (didn't see bing play except as a piston but swap him for moten if you will ) solid backcourt. but again i would pair louie and bouie (soul mates) with billy owens on the front line. pearl's gonna pearl . moten (or bing) was a good outside threat and a baseline assassin . and that front line louie/bowie/owens dominates anybody. man that would be fun to watch.
Agreed.Junior year.
