I've been one of the biggest Allen backers around, but this was tough to watch. That being said, we have putrid WR's. Its a joke. Thank goodness Penn State's stud didnt play the first half or we lose that game by 20.

The play calling was atrocious. If we arent going to take shots deep, mine as well put Hunt in and run an Army/Navy type offense. Allen missed some throws for sure, but no one was open. Our O-line got crushed, and we were also very predictable on offense. Estime needs more PT. Our returning guys are just plain not cutting it.

McDonald showed us nothing when it comes to being an OC on saturday. i hope it improves, and it should. And the scary thing is that Penn State is not good. We have at least 6-7 more opponents who are better than they were. Could be a long year if we dont get this fixed. Fingers crossed.

WOW

just being objective. nothing i posted is false.
I will still be at every game with my season tix cheering til i lose my voice...

but lets face it, we may have very well bought in to the attitude of Shafer too much and ignored some big flaws on the field.

Oy.

It's the same WR's - Sales, that started against NW last year, with the addition of Flemming and Estime. That group had 360 out of 480 receiving yds.

They aren't putrid.

There aren't 6 or 7 better defenses on the schedule this year.

You see very productive offenses with similar talent versus similar defenses every Saturday, sure you will have good games and bad games but its the truth. Lets just hope that game 1 was more of an outlier. There are receivers on this team that can be productive. We have kids that had many other BCS offers...

Where to begin...

We have putrid WR's? Broyld is a stud, Flemming is finally healthy and it shows (if Allen could've hit him he was open several times), West is above average and a few others can play. Putrid? Your post is putrid.

The play-calling was conservative. Shafer put parameters on McDonald. Atrocious? The plays that went bad were because of bad communication, unheard protection calls and sloppy execution.

Estime will get run, count on it. Our "returning guys aren't cutting it" is just plain false.

McDonald hasn't had full reign to call his own game. See the Shafer offense article. It wasn't all McDonald's fault at all.

You should really read your posts before you submit. Many things you write are completely untrue.

Sales isnt on this team. West is not nearly good enough to be a #1 wr and our other guys didnt even see the field last year.

Agree to disagree.

But... Broyld a stud? In what world... come on man. He wouldnt even start for 30 plus teams in the NCAA. Maybe in a couple years he will be, but not yet. Not close. Flemming has shown nothing. West above average? You are going with all heart, no logic... its ok though. I like the passion. U are just way off on this one.

We lost to a pretty mediocre Penn State team. And it was the OFFENSE that lost it for us. They generated about seven points on their own. LOL. Ouch.

Put any QB behind the O-line we had last year and they will look good (see Ryan Nassib). Put any qb behind this line, and it will be ugly. I guess i will cut the WR a tiny bit of slack because its hard to get open when the D-line has a jail break 1 second after the snap.

When Robinson played in the second half Syracuse was outscored by 3, the same amount they were outscored by in the first half. I hate to rain on the negativity parade, but facts sometimes get in the way of emotional rants.

Wow man. Not even going to bother.

It's one game. Let's wait and see what happens over the next 3 weeks before crucifying anyone. Usually, you're not as good or as bad as you look in week 1.

Shocking that a couple of underclassmen would get limited playing time behind TWO seniors. I hear that Lemon kid was hard to keep off the field last season.

Kobena had the highest avg yards/catch on the team last year.

mine as well

Please name the 6-7 opponents who are better than PSU. I'll give you Clemson and FSU to get you started.

To make all these claims and comments after just one game (against Penn State mind you) seems anything but objective to me.

While I don't agree with Superfan, there is a relevant question that must be asked...

Its obvious the team has some growing pains beyond the QB spot, most of which should be resolved by Wagner/Tulane. However, if the team can't find its "sea legs" by mid season, when do you insert Hunt as prep for 2014? How much leash should be given to Allen?

If a change like that is made (and I don't foresee it happening), I can't see a change being made before the November (WF/MD/FSU) stretch of games at the earliest. Even then, only a 1-7 or 2-6 record going into WF even give this option consideration.

Learn how to read. Sales had 120, guys that played Sat. (West, Kobena, Clark, Broyld, Wales, Gulley, Smith) accounted for 360. That was a year ago.

I am well aware that if you dont close your eyes to reality on these boards, you will be in the minority. I am fine with that. I guess we watched a different game on Saturday. I will happily be wrong if we come out and beat NW or Clemson. The truth is though we are more likely to lose to Tulane than we are likely to beat one of them.

Gotta figure out the O-line fast for this season to end up in a bowl game.

I think in one of these upcoming games -- perhaps as soon as this weekend -- we are going to see what Broyld is capable of doing. And I was not a cheerleader for Broyld last year. To me you could see it against PSU. He is on the cusp of breaking out. Things have almost clicked for him, and I believe that the coaches know it. Hopefully Allen knows it/sees it too.

Asked prior to the season who would be our breakout player, I went with West. Granted, hard to call a guy who had 45 catches last year, a breakout type of player. I have since revised my opinion. This offense is going to include a stead diet of Broyld.

the only teams worse, i believe, are BC/Wagner/Tulane/Wake Forest

So you think Pitt is better than PSU after that 41-13 drubbing by FSU? Yeah ok, i'd buy that for a dollar.

Everyone on these boards believes they are being objective. I believe I am. You believe you are. Everyone. What we have are opinions. And we interpret what we see one way or other and form our opinions accordingly.

Yes, but some believe if your opinion does not agree with theirs, then your eyes must be closed.

Eyes are wide open, but we need to witness more than 60 minutes before making any judgement. It scares me that some people are so quick to fly off the handle. Heck I remember 2001 when we lost to GT in the meadowlands and followed it up with a loss to TN before finishing 10-3. Last year looked to by lost by week 6 and then we practically run the gauntlet to win a share of the BE. It's only been one game. Need more evidence before sending this thing to a grand jury.
