Am I only one who has no interest in watching the Championship game?

Im going to watch but the hype has been next to zero for this game. I think the NFL playoff weekend really drowned out the game tonight, ESPECIALLY with what Tebow did. Fairly certain ESPN would have spent a little bit on the playoffs but then hyped up the Championship game with all their might, but with Tebow in the mix its back to "All Tebow, All the Time".

I also think people are down on a rematch.

Would much rather watch this game then Duke/Butler for the hoops title. That said, I watch both. This game should be great. Again, I wonder if many here are actually college football fans, or they just watch Syracuse

I am a college football fan.

I watch as many of the bowl games as I can.

I don't have any real interest in a game that tries to be a super bowl - a game that tries hard to generate hype where very little naturally exists and a game that - with an accomodating press - tries to render the other bowl games meaningless.

Since this game does not typically decide the best team, I would prefer going back to the old system where the number one team is by vote.

I recognize that that will never happen.

Exactly my point, quit beating the drum, people get carried away. Alabama and LSU have earned the right to be there and are the two best teams, IMO usiing the current system. Ok St loss to Iowa St, Boise loss, Oregon loss twice, Stanford lost. Calm down and watch the game. Generate hype? It's the national championship game. again this isn't 1982, get over it. It has decided the best team almost every year, it ain't perfect but I think once again, they have the two best teams or given the current criteriathe two teams that deserve it the most. They are two well coached, great football teams.

You are a dinosaur

I wouldn't say I have "no interest", but to me, college football still ends on Jan 1 (or Jan 2 this year). I hate what they've done in dragging the major bowls out over a week and playing the NC game after NFL playoffs have started and college hoops is in full swing conference mode. I guess the ratings numbers must show that it works, but I haven't watched much of the NC games in recent years simply because I have "moved on" by the time it rolls around.

I guess I am a dinosaur.

I just don't care about a game that has essentially become an SEC showcase - a game that requires the participant to be a mega-program.
I really do have no interest in watching two teams whose coaches probably earn more than $4 million per year.

And I don't like a game that tries so hard to be important, when so many really don't care about it - as evidenced by the posts in this thread.

Much of college football is tradition - and this offers nothing in that regard. In fact it has tried to render the great traditional games - Orange, Rose, Cotton, Gator, etc meaningless.

My lack of interest is I guess my way of preserving the importance of those traditions. You can't fabricate interest.

I agree. The bowls are a joke and the fact that they drag this thing out until January 9th is completely ridiculous. This SEC lovefest being crammed down our throats makes me want to vomit. Phenomenal football conference however this game was almost pre-determined 10 weeks ago regardless of any outcome.

id watch every year if they had a legitimate playoff, PEOPLE ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO PREDICT GAMES 100% OF THE TIME TO SIT THERE AND MATTER OF FACTLY SAY LSU AND ALABAMA ARE THE BEST TWO TEAMS AND JUST GET TO BE SHOED IN THE NATIONAL TITLE GAME! BY THAT LOGIC WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SHOED IN TO THE FINAL FOUR IN 2010, WE WERE CLEARLY THE BEST TEAM IN OUR BRACKET, NO WAY WE COULD LOSE.

We spanked West Virginia, West Virginia spanked Clemson, thus we would have won the Orange Bowl, obviously not, yet people sit there and use that logic all the time trying to defend why a certain team is better and should be in the title game instead of settling it on the field, there is plenty of time in the bowl season for playoffs, the problem is the people put in charge if the BCS are making serious money off of it and don't want it to change, and spew the most ridiculous propaganda agaisnt a playoff

it doesn't matter whether i'm interested or disinterested, either way i'm going to timewarp from halftime to an infomercial and be forced to check my phone for what happened.

no football championship game should happen on a weeknight

It was not predertmined, far from it. All that need to happen was one of the 3 scenarios, Stanford beat Oregon, Boise St beat TCU or OK st beat Iowa St, pretty straight forward. Now Bama lost in overtime to the #1 team in the country, which one of these 4 losses is the easiest to forgive? answer me that? Are you claiming that the SEC isn't the best conference or that Ok St's loss to Iowa St is a tougher loss than Bama losing to LSU who is the #1 team in the country, is that what you are saying? The fact is, it's the right game as was last year as has been many years but people just want to whine about it. every week matters in college football from Labor Day through the bowl games.

If they went to a playoff, you would be complaining about the loss of pageantry of the bowl games! ( well Orange Pa would) I can see it now

Michigan lost to Michigan State. Michigan State played in the Big 10 championship game and Michigan didnt. Michigan got a BCS bid because they bring more fans to the games. Embarrassing.

Again, it's the system we have in place and using that system the game is the right game. Teams such as Ok St, Stanford, and Boise shouldn't be whining, they had their chance.

Probably right.

And they already decided on the field which was the better of those two teams...on the losing team's home field no less.

The problem with the current system is that we're supposed to forget all of that and pretend that THIS game determines which of the two teams is best.

Yawn...

Do you honestly think that they would have put Boise State in over Alabama had they gone undefeated? No chance. The argument that drives me crazy is that Alabama dominated LSU and should have won the first time. Who gives a crap, they lost the game. End of story.

Okie State I thought had better wins than Alabama, I mean who did Alabama beat anyways? Auburn? Florida? An overrated Arkansas team? Again SEC is clearly the best conference and that is the only reason who they are in over Okie State at the end. Okie State beat Baylor, Oklahoma, A&M.

An undefeated Boise is playing for the national championship, I have absolutely no doubt. This was their year. I thought that was pretty much determined. That overrated Arkansas team just beat the tar out of the Big 12 runner up and Arknsas was basically the 3rd place SEC team.. That is my point, are you watching college football? Arkansas is a damn good football team where do you come up with this stuff?. A&M was 6-6? What is that. Oklahoma was down this year. Baylor was good. If you don't think the SEC is the best conference then we should just stop discussing this matter. I get that people hate it, but it's a fact. Hey, I love the Pac 12, other than Syracuse I watch Pac 12 more than anything but it's not better than the SEC, although it could be in a few more years, the coaches in that league are all really good and USC is on their way back to being elite.

i don't care if bama is better than oklahoma state and that losing to LSU is less bad than losing to iowa state. they had their chance. if LSU beat okla state, then bama can say they're better than okla state.

i think the saints and packers are the best team. should the saints get a rematch in the super bowl? screw that.

prior games should trump the BCS. if the only team you lost to ends up #1, and you're #2, you're out of luck, too bad, you switch with #3

No doubt I would.

I have no interest in making college football more and more like professional football.

The fact is that the two games have been and should remain different.

ESPN and the rest of the media are trying - for profit of course - to blur the distinction, but it's not for me.

The next thing will be a "HS National Championship."

And when that happens IB I guess will complain that I am objecting to progress.

And he'll be right again.

I am now an ACC man - a BE man I guess for awhile longer.

I like the Pac 12 and the Big Ten and even the Big 12 much more than the SEC.

I guess I think of the SEC as a bunch of mega institutions that care very little for academics - that over pay coaches - that inspire yahoos to do things like destory the Auburn Tree etc.

I never watch SEC football if I can help it.

I never said the SEC was not the best conference. Clearly they were. My point is that Alabama had their shot. At home. Didnt get it done. Laid an egg. Now because the strength of their conference they are playing for the NC tonight. I would have loved to see Boise play. Loved it. I just think there would have been some voters who when push came to shove would have voted Bama.

Your argument is that these are the 2 best teams so if Boise won that game would they have been better than Alabama? No of course not. My point was that people all along think these are the 2 best teams (its been crammed down our throats for 3 months) so I am not sure how Boise winning would have changed that perception.

Alabama did not earn their right to be in this game. Finished 2nd in their division in the SEC. Lost at home in the SEC. Outside the SEC beat Penn State. That's their resume. They are there on reputation and nothing else. Its a bogus game propped up by the people that refuse to allow a true championship tournament in the only division of any any sport that does nto have one because they get their pockets lined with dirty money from the obsolete bowl system. The current university presidents and league commissioners may need to wither and die in order for the sport to advance.

Would have been far more excited to see LSU-Okie State.

We'll never know, but I think LSU would destroy Okie State, just like they destroyed Oregon early, destroyed Arkansas and Georgia in better, and pretty much destroyed everyone except Alabama.

But we can't have LSU vs LSU, the only team who has really been deserving. I think this is the next best thing.

I know it's annoying that their from the same conference, and that conference wins every year, and that conference has been known to bend the rules more than others (although it's getting the point that nearly everyone good has done something wrong). The SEC pretty much owns college football right now, so if you like the sport, you just have to live with it.

And BTW Arkansas is highly overrated. They had a non conference schedule of Missouri State, New Mexico and Troy. And this 6-6 A&M team you mocked they barely beat.

Every game matters and then when you had a bunch of one loss teams, you use the system in place to come up with a national championship game, sure people can make arguments here and there but the best two teams with how the season played out happen to be in the same conference, who the cares?

Yet on the field, they just kicked the crap out of K St. 2nd place team in the Big 12. Why is that? I would schedule cupcakes too if I played in the SEC West with Bama and LSU, you would too

Eh, I guess my bigger issue is how they've (meaning The Man) generally ruined the big bowls. I watch an absurd amount of sports and even I didn't know who was playing whom when last week. Saw people on Facebook posting about Arkansas on Fri and thought they had a hoops game.

Have all your games on NYD, take it back from hockey (hockey!) and then do the plus one the following Sat night.
