Watching the highlights on Sportscenter, Andy Katz commented that Jamie Dixon told him he could not believe a team could get through the Big East with only 1 loss. Then Katz goes on to say that if you are not voting for Mike Brey as coach of the year, you are voting for Buzz Williams. Are you kidding me?! How the heck JB is not the unanimous coach of the year in The Big East is beyond me. He's accomplished things this year that had never been accomplished in SU and league history.

I know people vote for these things often based on expectations etc. However, Marquette was supposed to be a good team. And while Brey guided his team to a better than expected year after the loss of their best player, his team lost 4 more times than SU. And while we were expected to have a top team, who the heck would have guessed we would end the regular season with a record of 30-1?! Not to mention JB's work in guiding the team through the off the court distractions we faced this year. Without a doubt in my mind, JB should be the coach of the year in the Big East and I'd argue nationally as well.

Let's Go Orange!!!

As the year went on, it was clear the Syracuse had the most talent in the Big East, and that is what ultimately will hurt JB. Marquette has 2 really good players, and no one else; ND's roster is the bottom 1/3 of the league talent wise.

It's the same reason why Calipari won't win National COY, he has too much talent.

Coach of the year is the most worthless award there is. I tried googling the past winners of BECOY and couldn't even find the results. Nobody cares about it, even the coaches.

Coach of the Year usually goes to the coach of the most surprising team. That's why Brey will get it... ND was a good team (top half of the Big East) but with Abromitis' injury they over achieved this year.
There are exceptions, such as when Matt Doherty took a preseason #3 UNC team and lead them to a #6 finish before flaming out in the NCAA tournament but got national coach of the year over Al Skinner & BC

In light of what has been reported, there is no way JB was going to win coach of the year. SU would have to have gone 41-0 for him to even be considered.

I'd vote for Brey.

Let Brey have it .. he really has done a great job .. we have bigger goals we are after.

How Stan Heath isn't in the picture, I'll never know. USF with 12 conference wins? Never thought I would see that.

And Buzz should not be in the discussion. I get the injuries etc etc but if Boeheim can't get the COTY because of all of our talent, why should Buzz get it with perhaps the 2 best players in the league on his team? Marquette was a top 4 team and they finished 2nd. Not COTY worthy.

Brey, Heath, or Boeheim (how does the coach of a 30-1 team not get consideration?)

Got to be Brey. He's the only conference coach to beat the Beast.

How Stan Heath isn't in the picture, I'll never know.

Agree. I'd give it to Heath before I'd give it to Brey or Curly. A coach of the year should show more class than to dance on his opponent's logo after a win.

Funny thing is Brey won it last year as well, I would give it Stan Heath
Team 10-11 -11-12
Pitt 15-3 -5-13 (-10)
Notre Dame 14-4 -13-5 (-1)
Louisville 12-6 -10-8 (-2)
Syracuse 12-6 -17-1 (+5)
St. John's 12-6 -6-12 (-6)
Cincinnati 11-7 -12-6 (+1)
WVU 11-7 - 9-9 (-2)
GTown 10-8 -12-6 (+2)
UConn 9-9 -8-10(-1)
Villanova 9-9 -5-13 (-4)
Marquette 9-9-14-4 (+5)
Seton Hall 7-11-8-10 (+1)
Rutgers 5-13-6-12 (+1)
Providence 4-14- 4-14 (+0)
USF 3-13-12-6 (+9)
DePaul 1-17 -3-15 (+2)

If you reward Brey over Heath than Heath will never win the award and you mind as well name the BECOY Award the Mike Brey COY award because he would have won it more times than JB.

Id go heath then brey then jb.

This might be settled (for Katz and others) if we get a chance to put ND away in the BET.

I'd give it to Brey because he did it w a generally pathetic group of players and without their one legit BE guy, Abromitis. I watched them play GT this week and they looked so bad as to wonder if they were resting their starters.

Brey has done most of this at home this year with a relatively bad road record. But given the lack of talent he has, winning at all has been impressive.

Since I don't believe we have much "NBA talent" outside of -- potentially -- Melo, I have no doubt in my mind that the BE Coach of the Year is James Arthur Boeheim. Of course, the talking heads will claim SU has too much talent for JAB to merit the award this year. Then next year, when Scoop and Kris flame out, and Waiters and/or Melo end up in the D-League, the "experts" will all talk about how JB "ruins" talent by forcing it to play Zone.

I think there are reasonable arguments to be made for 3 or 4 BE coaches this year. Although I may be a little biased, I think it’s really just a 2 man race. Heath and JB. I truly feel that Boeheim is most deserving. The transformation from last year to this for USF is seemingly miraculous but their conference schedule lined-up quite nicely for them. From 3-15 to 12-6 is an impressive turnaround but they really only have one "signature" conference win (@ Louisville). Meanwhile, Boeheim has guided the Orange to a record breaking season while balancing some potent egos and negotiating through a monumental controversy and a high-profile lawsuit. All things considered, I don't see how JB doesn't win it this year.

Should be Heath. USF winning 12 games in conference. USF? Anyone think they would win more than 2 in pre-season? USF? Brey won last year. Did a real good job this year. Heath is the huge surprise of the season.

There is a snowball going downhill feel for Calipari to get COY among CBS/ESPN analysts, writers. Terrible how JB is getting hardly a mention. I wonder how much the Fine mess has to do with that.

The voting is fixed. It is controlled by the Mock Turtle Neck Society.

One thing I don't get is how people claim playing zone hurts NBA potential. It is not like anybody plays defense in the NBA anyway! If you flip to an NBA game you are lucky to see 3 of the 10 players on the court playing even decent defense!

Uh, you can easily make a case for Brey and Buzz along with JB.
