Annual August gut-punch

A strong program shrungs this off. At SU we lost an important building block. But hey, maybe he'll be here in two years! Maybe Alin Edouard will too!

The Orange now heads into the season with six scholarship safeties: the three true freshmen to go with redshirt sophomore Chauncey Scissum, sophomore Antwan Cordy and redshirt freshman Rodney Williams.

Uhhhh, so how do we "coach" our way around this exactly?

I have been critical of SS but I will say it was 100% to do with the offensive side of the ball. I would say he has done a good job with the D with the talent we have had. He isn't the best defensive coach in CFB but he does a good job coaching D. I am not worried about the D stinking because of 1 lost true freshman safety.
I feel more bad for the kid having the NCAA announce this decision so late when a lot of JUCOs are full.

Not sure what's worse .. being gut punched in August (FB) or in March (BB). But this is the NCAA ... so I think "sucker punched" would be more accurate in either case.

I didn't mean for my comment to come across as negative, or snarky. I know that Shafer and Bullough have done very good work with the D. Just figure that we are scary thin at some important spots. It's gotta have an impact at some point,
