Another very underrated classic road win vs a top 5 team

An overtime game that's in the 40s. That is kind of incredible.

Ah yes, those Pitt games were seriously painful to watch. I remember seeing the final score of this game (couldn't watch it because of work), and having my jaw drop seeing that it went into OT and both teams still didn't break 50.

Exactly what I was thinking about how ugly and why it wasn’t talked about more as a great classic game like a duke game that was in the 80s Pittsburgh was ranked higher than Duke was whenever we played them and we won the game on the road which is harder than at home and it never got any hype

This was great, thanks for posting it.
I can't decide what I hated the most: Dixon, the overrated fans or the stupid arena with inexplicable patios and cabana rooms at half court.
I'm really looking forward to beating those stiffs twice next year. Losing to them twice this year was intolerable, but the insurrection day choke job was one of our worst losses ever and would have been the reason we missed the tournament.

How I miss the days when JB could throw all that size and beef at Pitt. When GMac was out, he ran a lineup of Warrick, Forth, Roberts, Pace and McCrosky. Forth goes out and J. McNeil comes in. Sure, we had no perimeter game (neither did Pit), but at least we didn't get manhandled.

Pitt always had like 2 basketball players and then just a bunch of bruisers. That wasn’t basketball. Basketball is meant to be athletic and flowing. Their clutch and grab crap made the game ugly to watch. I appreciate good defense, but when it looks more like a wrestling match, it sucks.

It’s kind of amazing in retrospect that the 2004 team was able to put together a very solid year despite having basically one outside shooter. GMac made about 75% of the threes on the entire roster.

This game was about a month after this one

I was absolutely demoralized after that loss and coming into this game was one of the few times I was convinced we had absolutely no shot to win the game.

So yeah, nailed it.

Not only did we beat the number three team in the country we broke their 40 game home winning streak!

If someone wanted me to explain to them why Jamie Dixon had almost no postseason success at Pitt, I would just show them the tape of this game.

I distinctly remember listening to this game on the radio with my dad, as we were driving home on the Thruway. Imagine listening to that game on the radio.

Yet Jim had ZERO success against him. It's so weird

I was in India for this game. Did a whole tour of Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Indore - I had a chance to get on the internet for like 20 minutes and it took all 20 minutes to get SU scores. Was absolutely shocked we won that game.

This game

2006 BET title

2012 at home when we had our best regular season ever and they were trash (and we still struggled in this one)

2013 BET

2014 home

2014 road on a half court buzzer beater

2018 with a different team that had no “muscle memory” on a attacking a zone.

I mean that’s the list, over fifteen seasons.

Jim was 6-15 against Dixon. He was a Tyler Ennis heave away from being 5-16. This wasn't meant as an attack on anyone. It was just a note on how little success he had against him yet he had a much better record against much more highly regarded coaches. That's all.

No I get it. I agree with you.

Dixon’s “system” and the guys he recruited to it, were JB’s kryptonite.

Just a bad matchup for Cuse’s style and system.

Yeah they combined physically strong players with good passers out of the high post and timely shooting. Not to mention relentless on the boards. They also won a lot of games playing clutch and grab hoops - that once tourney officiating came into play made them average
