Anthony Francis - QB (2013) Commit

in what way?

he can throw a deep ball and actually hit his receiver-

when he runs it doesnt look like his knees are taped together

shows some touch on the shorter throws

Nassib probably ran that well against high school talent and before he gained about 30 lbs.

The thing I really like about this kid's deep passes... he squares his shoulders and almost effortlessly puts the ball down field. He's not heaving the ball like most high schoolers. He has the strength to make those throws already and will only get stronger.

lol he's not even committed? This thread is hilarious.
He tweeted last night he committed here, which was retweeted by the scout writer, John Garcia. Then he backtracked on that this morning. No one actually knows if we offered him.

Granted, the competition looks real weak. But I like his decisiveness. Gets the ball out quickly with zip and puts air under the deep throws. Understands and executes the offense he is running. If it's true that he's committed, I'm real good with it.

The issue is that if that is our future O then why in the **** are we not running it now? This kid is no burner. Doesn't seem all that good of a runner. So why can't we run this O now? IMO it would help the passing attack and having Nassib run a few zone reads a game is do able.

Nassib actually ran the play this year, was good for a few TDs. I can only imagine it's fear of him being injured as to why we didn't run it more. It was clearly in our playbook and we looked crisp when we did it.

Just makes you wonder if there are too many formations and plays in our playbook, and we're gameplanning just a bit too much, leaving out our strengths in a gameplan if we also think it's a strength of the defense. I think you have a better shot and doing what you do well, than doing what you don't do so well, regardless of the D. Maybe a completely offbase comment, but can't help but think it when you hear the coach often saying we need to go back to what works after you stop seeing us use what worked.

I'll bite...

What is the offense he's running?

He's running a spread offense. Which many SU fans have wanted us to switch too. As a spread offense, which is pass heavy, would work very well in a Dome.

A few things I know:

-- He's a must get and if the staff doesn't get him they must suck at recruiting.
-- Unless he doesn't get at least three stars and/or a good handfull of BCS offers. Then I think he sucks
-- But assuming he does, he's already better than Nassib
-- He's a Marrone Guy ... unless he comes here then transfers, at which point we didn't need him, he wasn't that good and he wasn't a Marrone Guy.
-- I'm not 100% sure, but as soon as Hunt commits his first turnover, I'm pretty sure this kid will be better than Hunt.
-- We should all pass judgment on him as soon as possible so we can have informed discussion about him.

I have a very solid source (friend of his mother's former housekeeper's daughter's bf) who said that he had verbaled to SU last night and was solid until page 3 of this thread, where he learned that he would be sitting behind 3 SU QBs already on the roster.

I agree, he looks to be a good athlete too. So could probably switch to another position, if QB doesn't pan out.

I wish i could like this post more than once.

That or the fumble issue. Nassib needs to learn to cover the ball in the open field.

My guess would be we expressed interest but haven't offered. He took it as an offer and then had to back track after saying he committed.
Pretty sure this happens quite often, especially with TOS still listing a 2012 commit that we apperently never offered.

Question: who fears Nassib being injured...the coaches or Ryan himself? At times, he ran like he's scared to death of contact.

Good point.

And to RMH's question, I don't know. But it didn't seem like we called that play much, even where Ryan would be handing it off. Good to know it's in the offense though and seems to be designed correctly. Hope we take it out to drive more if there's a more athletic QB at the helm one day.

According to John Garcia, this kid just tweeted he committed to Syracuse. No profile on either site, 2013 prospect, first team all state in RI.

Highlight Vid

He seems to loft the ball up in the air as opposed to throwing it. I'm not really impressed with his long hail mary passes. I would be more impressed with the 10-15 yard surgical strikes.

That said, I am more impressed with his running ability. That would add another dimension to our offense that we sorely need.

Whatever. He looked pretty damn good to me.

Noticed that too but is probably typical for a HS Jr. Most of his "deep" balls were of the 30 yard variety too and not 50-60. He did have one that went pretty long but he had to put something on it and the WR who was all alone had to come back for it. A good prospect but impossible for us neophytes to tell how the film translate to college.

I REALLY REALLY hope this guy is the next Andrew Luck. However, I have to admit it's hard to trust the staff's eye for QBs at this point.

Maybe it's not their eyes. Maybe it's their bait.

It's called touch.

Funny thing is he was worse than any of Nassib's seasons here. His TD:INT ratio was a solid 1. And he only threw 10 yard passes. But we love Greggers and hate Ryan.

Put me in the hate Greggers and LIKE Ryan pool. If he leads us to another 8-5 season, then I'll love the guy.

Except while Greg was here and playing, then everyone loved Ryan and hated Paulus. Go figure. :noidea:
