I don't have the link but the response is classic JAB. I really can't believe a professional or even a DO writer would ask that question.

What was his response?
Something like: I've been coaching 40 or 50 years and I think I know who should play. Maybe you should get a job as a coach if you think you can do better. But I was at my kids game yesterday and tried to tell the coach who to play and he didn't listen to me.

apparently it was a local guy who asked him that, so yeah, he deserved to get a JAB beatdown

The reporter asked a stupid question and got a response out of JB. Surprise, surprise.. There is an obvious reason JB doesn't care for that type of question. When players hear the question asked by reporters, they start to think it could be true, so in effect, they are undermining the coaches decisions regarding playing time.. I thought JB handled the interview flawlessly.

Not trying to stir the pot here but every time Boeheim responds like that, he shows his insecurities. To riff on JB's question to the kid, how many wins does he need to have to not see questions like this as a personal affront on his coaching methods? I think we can say with some confidence that the kid didn't mean it that way but that's the way that Boeheim took it. Never completely understood that side of him. I know that there were alot of folks in town who weren't sold on him for a long, long time. Heck, my dad was one of them. And I'm sure that weighed on Boeheim. He's just that kind of guy. But after the championship year, even my dad (along with alot of other doubters) came around. Despite all the talk about getting that monkey off his back in '03, Boeheim has seemingly never been able to feel completely at ease about his job and coaching abilities. Who knows? Maybe that's the secret to his success? Maybe it's what keeps him going after all these years?

I think you're off base on this one.

It's an interesting theory but whatever it is that keeps him going it's working.

Nothing against your dad but there were definitely some doubters and hopefully they are all looking back at it and realizing how wrong they were. I think if there is anyone who feels completely at ease about his job it is JAB. Otherwise why would he continue to get up there and basically say my way or the highway. It's his show. No one else's.

It was how the question was asked is what made the reporter sound like an ass. He asked how many quality minutes did Roberson get today?

Very random but I always wondered what Boeheim's response would be if a reporter asked Boeheim if Melo was a bust during the 2002-03 season at Syracuse.

I have only spoken with JB a couple of times, but I was most impressed with his candid and direct answers to questions about the team and individual players. I like that quality.

It wasn't a stupid question. It was a stupid answer. Coaches decision. Period. Next question.

The context was weird. The reporter said,"Roberson gave you some good minutes ..."

Don't know if he was being sarcastic or just stupid. Either way, JB has patience for neither.

hey coach, I have won over 900 games like you have. On the road this week you played roberson. Today he didn't play. What was different? Help me to understand.

Here is what was stupid. Fair and Grant played 40 minutes each and both played arguably their best games of the season. Neither struggled nor were in foul trouble. There was absolutely no reason to pull either of them. The writer should have known that.

I've learned that it is not smart to criticize JB about anything on this board. That being said, I am opening another beer and moving on to the next thread. ;)

He was asking a question..i.e his job. Your answer is the one jb should have given.

Now Opus, you've been around for awhile. Seriously, why would someone ask JAB a question about why he didn't play one of his players. I can understand if it was someone like DC2 who was starting and now not playing to ask about that, but to ask about your fringe 8th or 9th guy in a game where your best two players are playing outstanding. Why risk sitting them. The writer was out of line. I respect your opinion and maybe you are right to remain silent, but should that question have really been asked.

Maybe JAB was assuming that the writer knew a little bit about the game. I guess that is why my original question was who was the writer who asked the question.
