Anyone know which sportswriter asked JAB why Roberson didn't play today?

Do you love it when reporters go out of their way to investigate Syracuse? Thank you JB

It's not the 90's anymore. The Yahoo exposé on Miami yielded a slap on the wrist. Is Oklahoma State even being investigated after the SI hit piece?

How much basketball do you have to know and how much do you have to know about this team? After an earlier game JB said he didn't play TR because the other team was playing a match-up zone. In another ACC game (more competitive game than this one) JB played TR. In this game he could have played TR before knowing for sure what kind of games CJ and Grant were going to have. He admitted the team was tired. I hope i'm not showing my ignorance if I'm curious why he didn't play Roberson.
jB has such a great basketball mind. I just wish these reporters would learn to frame questions in a way so that we would get more insight into these great coaches minds. Instead of asking qusetions that are just dismissed and laughed at.

No. And you really think they wouldn't anyway? Get real. They have their own agenda's and it usually is "hey look what I found". Then maybe later do a little research and find out if any of the crap they put out there is actually accurate. If not bury it on the inside of the back page. Does ESPN come to mind at all? Did J.B. get under their skins first? No! No equation here at all.

Thank You Dasher.

Silly. The easiest thing in the world is to be a good winner. JB and the team won. No need to act like a jackass (again). It doesn't reflect well on the university or jb. When you get older, you will realize that.

I don't know why you would ask why a coach didn't use a reserve in beating North Carolina by 12 points but I do think it's permissible for a reporter to ask why a coach did something. I don't think it implies that he should have done something else.

exactly . . . if the reporter had been any good, he would have followed up with something like "nobody is questioning your choices, but I think the fans of the team would appreciate your insight on how and why you make them, particularly when it comes to such an important future contributor as Tyler"

feed him a spoonful of sugar if you want him to answer a question like that.

Good lord, are you serious? King and Queens and Presidents don't get that type of deference, nor should they. He's a basketball coach for god sakes.

And a Hall of Fame basketball coach, and justifiably so. But far, far, far from being a Hall of Fame person, as he shows again and again and again. Each time diminishing himself and the university he represents.

Totally legitimate question by the reporter. After all, a previous question along the same lines elicited a proper, professional response from Jim about why he didn't play TR against Miami. Didn't hear any of the Jimbots whining about that interchange. Props to Jim for actually acting like a professional on that occasion instaed of acting like a 12-year-old as he did in this case.

Someone said earlier that a coach needs to understand how to act like a good winner. He does. There was no downside to this win, until our Hall of Fame coach created one.

Great coach. As to interpersonal skills, sadly, he is an embarrassment. And not for the first time.

Would be easy to answer my question about ESPN too. But then again you know the answer to that shows how far off your assessment was. If you would be so kind as to be less offended, you might actually see there was some humor in what JB said. I also like JB's sincerity and candor. If that's being a jackass, then we need more of them in this world.

When I get older…. thats just so darned cute, don't you think? When I grow up I want to think just like dasher. Here's the scary part for you. Most often I already do.

GO SU!!

Here is what was stupid. Fair and Grant played 40 minutes each and both played arguably their best games of the season. Neither struggled nor were in foul trouble. There was absolutely no reason to pull either of them. The writer should have known that.
JB did admit that he should have gotten Jerami some rest and acknowledged that Grant's production fell off as a result.

[quote="The reporters question could not possibly be answered in a way that would ever leave the coach, player and fans feeling good. It's actually a question that guaranteed leaves someone upset. The reporter was in the wrong. JB has been at this over 32 years. Rookie mistake.[/quote]

I think any reporter would respond by saying that none of this qualifies as a legitimate reason not to ask a question.

And this thread is after a Syracuse win.
I was also pi$$ed because Jerami has lime green shoe laces.

What's next...our football team wearing blue unis?

Maybe the reporter was fishing for that quote. Maybe boeheim saw a matchup problem with Roberson or hasn't like his defensive effort. I haven't seen the clip but That seems like a fine question to me.

Good Lord - "diminishing himself and the university". If you really believe that a snarky comment by an admittedly ly coach actually diminishes the university, then I would suggest that you have an extreme case of oversensitivity and are as guilty of overreacting as JB was.
I must have missed the headlines in the national press about the decline and fall of Syracuse University.
And, FWIW I tend to believe JB can be too harsh on reporters, but I think you grossly overstate the impact.

JB did admit that he should have gotten Jerami some rest and acknowledged that Grant's production fell off as a result.

Which makes it that much more ridiculous that Boeheim would be uncooperative and offer a rude reply.

I am starting to wonder if a few posters on this board. Were on the opposite end of a Mount Boeheim eruption or simmering.

If not. Then you are way to oversensitive in regards to an occasional media member being put in their place by Jim Boeheim.

IMO, It was a smart reply (Not rude).
It's sad you feel that way. You don't have to have unacceptable conduct at you to be sensitive about it for others. No one is a bigger fan of jb than me. I was at his first game as coach. I defended him 100% when others knocked him. Having said that, often, his answers at press conferences go over the line of civility. Just answer the question. Even if it's I played the guys that I thought would win us the game. End of story.

I don't have the link but the response is classic JAB. I really can't believe a professional or even a DO writer would ask that question.
I don't think anybody answered the question about which reporter asked the question: It was Styler Stroberson..

I'll throw that "are you serious?" back at you.

they are not trying to find out who ordered the bridge closings or where Hoffa's body is buried or who ordered the code red. They are trying to get information for the sports page. There is a reason why Kornheiser & Wilbon and even Cowherd get good stuff from JB - because they are not about it.

I will agree that JB is often ly and sometimes a flat out jackhole, but that's a separate point from the one I was trying to make, which is that the reporter failed at his job of getting information for his readers. If he wanted a short sound bite of a petulant coach that might or might not go viral, mission accomplished . . . but if he actually wanted an answer to his question, then its just another entry for failblog

It's weird. You use an arrogant and condescending posting style to criticize JB for being rude and insensitive to the media.

This is why many outside of Syracuse (fans of other teams) have negative opinions re: Boeheim.

Not weird. He wrote thank you dasher in a arrogant and condescending posting style. I returned the favor. Or doesn't his comment matter? I suggest he was having a bit of fun at my expense and I had a little fun at his. Neither one of us was representing syracuse university.

Maybe I'm in the minority on this one, but I love it when Boeheim has stern answers during PC's. If it was anything but stern, he would be acting fake.

The man is irritable, love him or leave him! I love him.

Seriously? How many fans of other teams even bother to watch Boeheim's press conferences? Perhaps after NCAA tournament games when he is generally on his best behavior.
Also, I see hundreds of negative comments on other coaches on this site. How many of those are the result of watching their press conferences? I dare say most of them are based on the coach's on court behavior, his style of play, perceptions on their integrity and almost anything but press conference statements.

The only comment I'll make about this thread is that I think his kid's coach must have some big cajones.

I wonder if his kid's team won.:)
