If I was an Arizona fan, I don’t think I would be able to emotionally come back from the way they lost to Illinois in the 2005 Elite 8. Arizona was up 15 points at the Under 4 timeout and lost.

One of the greatest choke jobs of all time but I really liked that Illinois team back then and wish they had won the whole thing.

I thought the same thing watching the game when they said the last fina four was 2001. They have had a ton of great teams with both miller and Lloyd the last 15 years and could not crack the final four. Some brutal losses in that stretch.

Just looking at their page on basketball reference; since that final four in 2001, they lost in the elite 8 5 times and the sweet 16 another 7 times. They've been a 1 seed 3 times in that period (not including this year), a 2 seed 4 times, and a 3 seed twice.

I love looking at these pages; from 1988 to 2003 (16 seasons), their average season was 27-6. Their worst seed was a 5, one time. They were a 1 or 2 seed 5 times each; so 10 times out of 16 a 1 or 2. Hell of a run

So is at least 50% of Phoenix. In this state you are either U of A or ASU, and the two sides don't mix at all.. I have a neighbor who did her undergrad at U of A and secretly did her masters at ASU, but she doesn't like anyone to know that she went to ASU since she is a huge U of A fan,

I've had relatives in Arizona so I've rooted for them. And my niece graduated from there so that cemented my rooting interests. Always felt that it was easy to root for them. Very similar once you got past that they were a major State university and Cuse wasn't.

I’m torn between wanting them to win it all since it’s a program with a lot of similarities to Syracuse, and not wanting them since don’t want teams with one championship getting #2 before Syracuse does.

Unfortunately that doesn’t leave great options this year. Go Illinois!
