Around the ACC (Injuries and Transfers)...

Not sure why they would want a 20 year deal. Now I agree it’s better than signing away your naming rights in perpetuity, but short terms seem better in the long run.
It’s astonishing how bad colleges are at these things. A *twenty year deal* that pays 3.5 million a year? That’s dumb. Even as inflation cools that’s a terribly low annual payment to make that kind of long term commitment.

From the sponsor's viewpoint you are signing up for something that is used under 10 times a year.

Sure, but it’s referenced literally every day. It’s a giant billboard sitting on campus that’s seen by thousands. It’s named in every marketing email, every campus guide, etc.

I mean, how many times was “Carrier Dome” uttered by people in CNY (and beyond) every day for 40 years?

There are research companies that measure the impressions generated by a naming deal like this, and 3.5 million is a bargain for Hyundai.

As far as comparison to the carrier dome, the dome is more than football though. Basketball, lacrosse, concerts, monster truck shows, etc. I don’t know if the GaTech stadium is used for anything else.

Tennessee has a new deal for their basketball arena

Shakes head.

For all our talk here of money ruining college athletics, it is still mind blowing to me how badly underleveraged college rights are, from media to sponsorships..

Cobble together a 75-ish school super league, appoint a true Commissioner, and the payouts would probably double. But schools are too myopic, petty and short sighted to ever do that.

I've done research for various companies that gauge the ROIs of their sponsorships, including naming rights. That is to say, companies have data to suggest the value they get out of their affiliations with arenas/stadiums and spend accordingly.

agree with this.

Regarding Tennessee. I just toured their campus last week. Neyland was under going heavy renovations to the outside of the stadium. I didn't pay too much attention to what exactly was being done but there was scaffolding and construction ringing the entire stadium. Clearly pumping millions into it (and I couldn't believe they will have it done in time by what I saw.)

Likewise, their Basketball arena was under construction as well. With all that money being pumped in, I was underwhelmed by their practice field facilities. The fields Syracuse football practice on look better. Construction was everywhere though.

Sad seeing any player injured but as an aside, I think Pitt‘s home field is grass. This kid is from Long Island, was way under recruited with Pitt being his only BCS offer and ended up an All ACC Offensive lineman.
Huge loss for Pitt. They are 1-3 and ir looks like they have 4 really likely losses still on their schedule. Don’t think they are going bowling this year.

The Fenway Bowl people are very upset with Pitt and BC having disastrous seasons.

Even UConn has deserted them.

Who will get exiled to Boston? I vote for UL.

More bad news for Pitt - Phil Jurkovec is uncertain for this weekend.
Pitt's starting QB for Saturday's game vs VT is probably going to be our old friend from the north - Christian Veilleux.

Louisville will get a better bowl, they are a solid team and their schedule is pretty forgiving too. Maybe NC State..
