As rough as the offense was this year

Any qb that gets sacked 48 times deserves a better shake than you just have him. 19-5 TD to Int is pretty damn good.

Indeed. Better than Nassib and Dungey (Nassib had a 24/9 and a 22/9 season). He probably needed to take a few more chances to be effective and that would drive his INT up a bit. But he's laid down a solid foundation with lots of kinks to work out. An effective run game and better blitz pickup and he'll put up a better year than Nassib in the next two.

You do realize that HCDB has major input into play calling don't you?
Yesterday was the first time that I notice Lynch making calls without clearing the plays with Dino. Might have been a test.
If it was, he failed miserably.

from what he has said he listens, rarely discusses most of the play calls, i dont call that major. now game plan he might have more input.

Realistically we should be better at every position save maybe LB. We return almost everyone. Also we had a huge playmaker in Jordan, who was limited in time this year. I would love to see him used in the slot like an Erv Phillips. Backfield is crowded, find a spot for him in the slot.

LB is the position that you think stands out in regards to being less talented next year? How about the DEs? We lose Robinson, Coleman and Berry. I'm not seeing where we come close to making up that talent right now. I'm way less concerned about the LBers going into next season than I am the dline.

Zama. He's going to open some eyes

I think Coleman will be missed more than Robinson.. such a high motor.. Even still teams didnt bother to double either one very much and so many games they were a non factor. I think Slayton did more than most people realize, he ate up double teams all game.

Devito will be more than fine behind a good offensive line. Like most QBs he just needs time to go through progression and not worried about getting hit as soon as he snaps the ball. Give him time he has all the arm talent in the world to pick apart defenses.

Then there are players like Dungey who will flourish under a good o-line or terrible o-line. Dungey flourished with Chaos and had the intangibles. I think Devito will have a huge season next year. I fully expect the offensive line to be good next year. They played well the last 3 games this year after the switch, I think they have it figured out. I trust Dino as well.

Ehhh, our DE’s really underperformed their expectations this year. Coleman played much better than Robinson. I think you may see Richards there at some point and Kinglsey has some good moments. Wasn’t impressed by Robinson at all this year, missed a ton of tackles and sacks. I get he was doubled a lot early but if you’re an NFL defensive end you should still make plays. Almost seemed like he didn’t try half the time. Just my opinion.

For as big a dose of reality that I got this year, I still think our offense will explode next year. Mostly because of the late OL improvement and because Jordan is unleashed. But add in the chip on the shoulder, Tommy improvements, Triston, Taj and the TEs and I just think it’s not going to be what we saw most of this year.

Defense is a real concern. Hopefully we find a wizard at DC, because the DL has depth problems, we’ll be starting LBs with limited experience and I’m concerned about overall play from the safeties. Not sure about corner depth either but do love the starters. Trill and Iffy will be the strength of the D.

TD has to know the offense and increase the speed. Welch doesn't have his talent but you could see his confidence, command and composure of the offense even though he hasn't played a lot. TD comes in and is looking at the bench over and over again and this is something he has to stop to increase the speed as well as improve his progressions, moving/throwing and pocket presence. The improved OL should help him do this.

I am reluctant to start calling our oline good just yet. The sample size was just 3 games and the use of "good " is relative. To me they go into next year with possibilities. Not sure any corners have been turned yet on the oline. I also think we need a QB who can push TD. In a perfect world we have a scenario where guys are competing. I think our defense has potential to be good depending on our hire and the coaches philosophy. We have some decent pieces for a DC coming in.

Devito has the physical attributes, that's for sure. Does he have the mental acuity? Nassib was a mess in the pocket his first couple years as a starter too, but you could clearly see that Welch was more adept at seeing the entire field (note the increased targets to Harris) and stretching plays.

I know this is ridiculous, but Tommy really needs to play a lot of pick up/flag (and I'm not talking about 7 on seven which seems really formulaic). Something needs to occur because he is too robotic out there. He needs to get used to scanning the entire field, moving outside the pocket (both directions), and using the entire field. He may need to add some weight too. I don't care what he can bench or squat. He went down on slight contact a lot. Hell, turn him into the "fat pirate." Get him on a farm. Something.

I am hopeful he will improve.

We need another QB in the room. The fact Dino is pursuing the NC kid is telling. Tommy is going to be fine but we are one hit away from disaster if one of the frosh doesn't make huge strides this off season.

Agreed. Would be great to get the UNC kid and one from the class of 2020 this year. Need to build competition and depth badly at QB.

This exactly. Btw the Fortin kid throws a lot like Jimmy G. Very similar motions

If HCDB has "major input" into every play call.....then why have lynch even on staff? Sorry, but you'll have to provide more evidence then just your opinion. If Dino and Lynch are talking through the headset then why isn't Lynch up in the booth getting a different view of the defensive scheme?

Eh, I think DeVito sees the field fine. His instinct is to look for something to develop downfield. I don't think the issue is as much not seeing things as it is he doesn't always take the shorter options, and that got him into a lot of trouble with swiss cheese oline. Plus, outside of Jackson and Hackett it seemed like he wasn't always on the same page with other pass catchers sometimes. Not sure who's fault that is, but the high completion percentage tells me when they are on the same page he gets the ball where it should go so a guy can make a catch.

Anyway, I think DeVito is way down on the list of stuff to worry about. Yeah, he can get better, and I believe he will, but his improvement is more about settling in than having to make huge functional strides I think.

After they just puked all over themselves this season, I find it hard to be optimistic about any player except TJ, Jordan and our secondary. Dino has to take the approach that all jobs are up for grabs and see how it plays out. We will 99.9999 percent sure we are starting 0-1 next year so the team has to be ready for week 2 and on. There needs to be shakeups not only in coaching staff but also who sees the field. Hopefully Dino knows how to fix this train wreck.

This is all for not if they don’t add wrinkles. I would love to see some easy throws in there that aren’t bubble screens.

Dino has said in interviews that he provides his input to play calling as well as his OC or Co-OC.
They have people up in the booth communicating with Dino and Lynch.
Each coach has their own style of being in the booth or not.
I saw a ton of coordinators both D and O on the sideline the last few years. They can coach up the kids after a drive (yes I saw our coaches doing this).
